Police said Thursday they had arrested a 32-year-old former U.S. Marine in Okinawa on suspicion of disposing of a 20-year-old woman’s body. According to police, Kenneth Franklin Shinzato has admitted to the charge of disposing of a body and has made remarks implying he killed her. The police said they found the body based on a statement by Shinzato earlier in the day, and later confirmed it to be that of missing office worker Rina Shimabukuro from Uruma in central Okinawa. Her body was found among weeds in the village of Onna, north of Uruma.
For all you Japan and Okinawa Sailors and Marines...here we go again. This is going to be Hell for the rest of the units there.
Why would they do this.
This is going to be Hell for the rest of the units there.
I was there for the 2012 rapes and the reaction to that was brutal, I can only imagine what USFJ or MCIPAC has for those stationed there.
And I thought my deployment here couldn't get any worse...
Man and the curfew was getting better too...freaking retarded people dude...
Man and the curfew was getting better too...freaking retarded people dude...
Shit man lol I remember in 2012 it was 2300 base curfew, no drinking out in town, place of residence at 2300. We actually organized a giant game of manhunt (yes the kind that kids play) on base, was Hella fun. Especially because we had some combat tested docs who weren't afraid to do some crazy shit to not get caught.

Is there really that much resentment of the base there or is it just the politicians scapegoating things
Is there really that much resentment of the base there or is it just the politicians scapegoating things
I think there is, yeah. I used to live in Japan, though in 2005-7 and on the mainland, and even there you heard about it. For whatever reason Okinawa seems to be a hotbed for US soldiers who also happen to be sexual predators.
I was there for the 2012 rapes and the reaction to that was brutal, I can only imagine what USFJ or MCIPAC has for those stationed there.
What was the reaction like?
Ya but Japan itself has had its own share of massive domestic sex trafficking scandals, the bases there can't really be that bad it's just every incident is very high profile
I think it's fair to expect foreign professional military personnel to act in a professional manner. Imagine the outrage there would be if the same thing happened in the USA. People would be calling for them all to to be deported or something

Give him to the authorities at Okinawa to allow them to try him and prosecute him under Japanese law, that should help smooth things over. It's not like the guy's still part of the Corps. If he's guilty, he's a common criminal and due no special consideration. [editline]a[/editline] Good, it seems that's exactly what they're doing.

Was fucking lame. Also caught a fucking typhoon as well, so was stuck in some dinky ass barracks room the whole time.

If they had he probably would have been executed to keep the Japanese happy. [editline]20th May 2016[/editline] Oh wait, contractor.
What could possibly be the motive for up and murdering someone like that?
What could possibly be the motive for up and murdering someone like that?
Being a psychopath? Why does there need to be a logical motive?

Had some people climb up the barracks buildings and hide on the rooftops, one guy broke his ankle jumping off of a roof to get away. Had a few guys wearing their cammies to hide in the brush and shit. [editline]20th May 2016[/editline]
What was the reaction like?
Well US Forces Japan banned all drinking off-base, imposed a 2300 curfew, revoked all overnight liberty for service members, instituted harsh punishments for liberty and curfew violations. Marine Corps Installations Pacific made it mandatory for some people to have 3 "liberty buddies" when going off-base, liberty buddies for everyone else were made mandatory so basically you were not allowed to leave base without another person. [editline]a[/editline] Good, it seems that's exactly what they're doing.
The Status of Forces Agreement that the USA has with Japan allows for US citizens/military to be prosecuted locally for more egregious crimes. DUI's and minor traffic stuff will be handled by the military but things like sexual assault and murder are given to the Japanese authorities. For example, the two retards that causes the last big incident in 2012 are now rotting away in some shitty prison in Tokyo where afterwards they will be tried again for their crimes in the USA.
Being a psychopath? Why does there need to be a logical motive?
Psychopaths lack empathy. They're not irrational per se.
Is there really that much resentment of the base there or is it just the politicians scapegoating things
How well do you think a foreign army is received, that's been around for decades by now. Even germans are often pissed off at american bases.
How well do you think a foreign army is received, that's been around for decades by now. Even germans are often pissed off at american bases.
There's isn't THAT much resentment towards the base though. Your average Okinawans are generally very accepting and okay with the base. The biggest issue are two bases one MCAS Futenma which is prime real Estate located in the densely packed city of Ginowan and Urasoe and the base where it will be relocated to in Yanbaru (rainforest that's being destroyed to fit the new base.)
How well do you think a foreign army is received, that's been around for decades by now. Even germans are often pissed off at american bases.
We're subsidizing their defense and they're not even paying the minimum requirement we asked them to, they actually got a better deal than the one they signed up for.
