Without Rule of Law: "Don't vote, kidnap children and live in the hills!"

I wanted to start a thread to gauge general interest in the topic widely known as WROL or Without Rule of Law. This is an umbrella term that encompasses a wide range of events, skills and resources. The basic concept behind WROL is that at one point in your lifetime it may be up to you and only you to provide for your own survival. Before I make this sound like I'm a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist I want to give some examples of WROL. When I describe a situation where an individual is left to their own devices in the modern world, without common utilities, essentials and services such as the Police, Medical Facilities, Supermarkets, water and electricity it usually comes across as a fantasy of a raving mad man. The wacko who lives in the woods and prepares for the end of the world. This however isn't the case, things like Tornados, Hurricanes, Earthquakes and other natural disasters can create a WROL scenario where basic services are disrupted, overwhelmed or completely absent for a period of time ranging from a few days, to several weeks, months or possibly years. Hurricane Katrina is an excellent example of what WROL would be like.
WROL also includes other disasters, including but not limited too;
* Nuclear
* Biological
* EMP
* Domestic disturbances such as riots
* Natural Disasters
* Economic or Social Collapse
The WROL objective is to promote people to consider, and prepare for these possibilities as slim as they may be. Better safe than sorry, and even so how often has the power gone out and someone's ran out of batteries or candles? Preparing for a WROL can be as trivial as stocking batteries, water, food and a bug-out bag or as serious as investing money in canned foods, water purification equipment, alternative transportation and manual tools among many others.
During a WROL scenario, there are some basic points that need to be stressed. Some may not apply depending on the situation, every one is different.
* Food and Water
* Shelter
* Security
It's nearly impossible for me to go into these three points in detail, much less the several dozen other issues that branch off of these. So instead I'd like to provide some resources to get people started.

The Nutnfancy Project has uploaded two videos that will give a general idea of what WROL may be.

Southern Prepper has over 100 videos all dedicated to different aspects of WROL ranging from food preservation, manual labor, security and sanitation and will provide extremely helpful information in a concise manner.
He does 'drama' videos where he tries to depict a serious post-WROL world which I find entertaining.

And he also provides instructional videos. More can be found on his channel.

Helpful Links:
The CDC Website which offers affordable and practical lists and considerations:
http://www.bt.cdc.gov/
The LDS Preparedness Manual which can be downloaded and read for free. This work offers a huge amount of information, however it also contains about 12 pages of religious context which can easily be overlooked or ignored.
http://survivalcache.com/book-review-lds-preparedness-manual/
These are just two basic sources of information. CDC being basic and the LDS manual being stuffed full of facts, instructions and ideas. There are literally thousands of publications that will help you but they're out and there and in all reality are not at all hard to find.
Hopefully this doesn't bring anyone down. This isn't meant to be all doom and gloom, humanity and society will endure and I myself highly doubt that any massive crisis will emerge but I find all of this information interesting and the phrase 'better safe than sorry' comes to mind. I'm not advising people to sell their homes and head for the hills, rather to consider what they may do in such a situation and prepare, after all a man's home is his castle.. well, within reason.
What about growing weed? I mean, if there's a WROL you might as well make the most of it
What about growing weed? I mean, if there's a WROL you might as well make the most of it
You could. Although I'd assume that one would be far too busy trying to meet their basic needs to be concerned with recreational drug use.
stock up on some guns and ammo beforehand, then wander about with a Geiger counter in hand and a pistol in the other, exploring the world on foot or horse. a horse would actually be useful.

Theres tanks, jeeps, apcs and other trucks EVERYWHERE....but fuck that
You walk
I actually own a old Civil Defense Geiger Counter. Still works.
my parents have shittons of canned food in the attic
i have been eating grass steadily for the past 6 months to prepare my digestive system for this kind of situation

thats fuckin metal
I have a farm on my head. Carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, you name it.
Where can I buy a Pipboy, incase of a situation like this?
Interesting thread, by the way.

yeah? well i've got grape vines growing along my pubes.
I've been getting seriously interested in this sort of thing recently.
Getting older I'm starting to realise that the world isn't as 'stable' as we think it is. There very well might come a time when I do have to fend for myself in the purest sense possible.
I don't like to rely on technology too much, I'm joining a gym, etc. All little things, but little things that'll help me to protect myself and my family if I have to.
I wonder if we here in the United States should be preparing for this sort of thing, because of the possibility of default/economic panic? v:v:v
nutnfancy is a fucking idiot

There's always a chance it will happen. I think that's the point of this.
Chance seems very low though. And it most likely would be more useful to people in disaster prone areas than anyone else (which is most of my country quite frankly :v:).

Aside from a natural disaster that's the biggest concern most people who are into WROL prep worry about.

I like a lot of his reviews and some of his philosophy videos are interesting. But he likes to talk down to anyone who isn't as 'TACTICAL DURA-COAT GLOCK WIELDING SURVIVORMAN SHEEPDOG" but I think he puts out some relatively good information.
We have some woods in the back of our yard, and if anything extremely insane went down, I don't think I would be that worried. I live in Wisconsin, the greatest threat here is a bit of nuclear fallout if someone, for whatever crazy reason hit Milwaukee with a nuclear bomb, or Canadians attacked.
If something bad did happen, I would just block off the storm drain in my backyard with some plywood and plastic, and make the inside into a sort of base we could access via manholes. You can actually stand comfortably in parts of the system, so we could probably house about 5-10 people down there. We would just need to block off the areas water would flow in, leaving a couple areas for vents.
Lol nutnfancy is pretty retarded

In a WORL situation I think I'd do reasonably well, we have a cabin the in the middle of nowhere that has a sizeable garden and is next to a large freshwater lake, I have biological water filters, solar rechargers and a generator from camping trips, plus two shotguns, a .22, and my Kel-Tec Sub2k.
Plus a whole bunch of survival books and shit.
My main issue would be getting me+family out to said cabin.
I know I won't survive a shit-hits-the-biggest-fan-possible situation. Then again I don't think I'd want to live in such a post-apocalyptic world.
[editline]22nd July 2011[/editline]
Then again it would be wise to prepare for minor-shit situations.
I would think that the hardest part of the survival planning would be getting out of high population areas. I would never, ever use a car, ever, as there would be no way to get out of the clogged highways. Motorbikes would have a better chance. I don't have any idea how to get a large supply of stuff over a large distance, other than having it all at the site or just carrying it.
I recommend looking into Zombie Squad. Basically, the idea is that if you're prepared for the zombie apocalypse, you're prepared for any conceivable disaster scenario. The forums have some great advice on these kinds of SHTF scenarios.
I'm so bored these days, that I could use a bit of excitement. I know I would regret it the second it happened, but right now, it seems like something to do.
I fill my pockets with sand. In case I get engaged in hand to hand combat.
I don't prepare for WROL situations, because there's far more worrying situations in Rule of Law situations.
My main preparedness for WROL is stick with friends you can trust, and can stay sane with. There's nothing better than being in a group.
And guns that use the same/small calibers, less need to pack different ammo.
M1911A1
M1 Carbine
Good to go
I would imagine handguns would be sufficient for personal defense, rifles and such are pretty heavy and you don't want to add too much weight to your luggage.
Of course if you're building a fortress, go for the best weapons possible.

Once again, rugged things like an M1991 or an M1A1 carbine. They're still being made and were originally designed for being thrown around in the dirt. They're light, easy to maintain, and fairly reliable.
