Isn't this what the T-1000 was made out of?

Apple has secured the rights to an advanced form of metal that could replace the company's use of glass backings in its phones and media players as well as the aluminum casings of its computers.
Liquidmetal Technologies has agreed to give over all the rights to its metal alloy technologies over to Apple for making things relating to electronics.
What's so special about this metal, you ask?
With approximately 2.5 times the strength of commonly used titanium alloy and 1.5 times the hardness of commonly used stainless steel, Liquidmetal alloys enable sophisticated, engineered designs required by the evolution of new technologies

Enables thinner, smaller designs while providing greater protection for internal components

Permits thinner walls while providing greater strength

Allows larger, wider screens for expanded features and capabilities

With precision net-shape casting, Liquidmetal alloys can be readily fashioned into intricate, innovative designs resulting in a unique aesthetic advantage

Excellent durability

Scratch and corrosion resistant

Non-reactive

While the aluminum that Apple uses on its computers right now is lightweight and attractive, it's a still a soft metal that's easily prone to scratches and dents.
Liquidmetal Alloy was developed by a research team at the California Institute of Technology and has been used commercially since 2003 in sporting equipment and electronics such as the Nokia Vertu. It's also employed by the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA.
Apple's agreement with Liquidmetal means that the only electronics and computers using this metal will be from the Cupertino company, though anything outside that will still have access to the alloy technology.

Fucking List being shit
Apple still sucks.
Hmm so signing a deal to say only we, as in apple can use it.
Right?

I think thats the way, without the ! marks.
Wouldn't it be called the i1000 now?

Damn straight.

Oh, good, I was worried there. Before I read the article, I thought that Apple was going to use it in computers and nothing else, and I'd never have nice things that this could be used for outside of the electronics industry.
Notice how there's nothing regarding the price.
Hopefully the ipod backings wont scratch so easily from now on. I remember putting my ipod touch, without a scratch, on top of a woolen sock and somehow that managed to scratch it :/
So it's just something to make their stuff even more expensive?
You guys want to know how much the Nokia Vertu that was mentioned in the article costs?
The cheapest one is $5100.
An exclusive deal, eh? Wellp, so much for the other innovative uses this material could provide. :/
Good the Iphone breaks if you drop it at a odd angle.
Apple still sucks.
Apple don't suck. It's just that their products are expensive and most of the userbase are pretentious assholes.

The Vertu is an elite business phone, it even has a button on the side for a concierge service. The material has nothing to do with it.
How the heck to you get exclusive rights to a metal alloy?
I'm gonna get one of these iPods and deliberately throw it at a wall really hard
Uhh isn't it illegal to claim the rights of a material?
That's basically like saying I bought the rights to gold now you have to pay me a royalty every time you use cash 4 gold.
Also it looks like nokia will be paying royalties now.

its buying rights for a specific use, people can still use this metal to make whatever else they want, let it be a giant lightweight scratch-resistant dildo.

I agree, in fact apple a fucking genius that they are able to sell their overpriced crap to so many.
This could be interesting.+
Isn't liquid metal somewhat poisonous?
Isn't liquid metal somewhat poisonous?
You're thinking of the poisonous kind.
Looks uh, awesome, like I could eat it.
Does that look good to anyone else? Fuck
they will make terminators with it
apple is the real cyberdyne

skynet = inet

At least we'll get really shitty Terminators that will stop working once a new one comes out.

I rated you informative
Just what we need, a bigger iPad!
Making a material exclusive? I have a feeling that this deal could easily be overturned in court.
Now my Apple products will block bullets by the year 2014!
Something about how that metal looks makes me want to eat it.
