• No multiplayer games that use Peer to Peer connections work

OK so here's the setup. I have two houses. My mothers and my fathers. My father runs a business so he buys the business package (static IP). His setup is just a modem and a wireless router. I plug directly into the modem plugin extender thingy. Peer to Peer games like Max Payne 3, Burnout Paradise, and others work just fine. At my mothers house, she's with some tech support guy who makes shit all fucking complicated. Pictures of the setup. [t]http://i.imgur.com/UK54JE6.jpg[/t] A red cord runs from the modem to this computer box. The computer box runs then reroutes it to the ethernet cord plugin extender. [t]http://i.imgur.com/JPkg9wR.jpg[/t] No peer to peer multiplayer games work in this house. Occasionally I can connect to someone but 9 times out of 10 I get an error. Torrents seem to work just fine though. Usually unable to connect to all players. I'm really not sure what to do. Every bit of situational evidence points to that fucking box causing the issue. Simple setup at fathers works just fine, but mothers retarded setup doesn't. I'm really not sure what to do here. This has been going on as long as I have been living in this house off and on and i'm just fucking fed up with this shit. ISP is cox. Later today i'm going to try to just blanket open all ports for a very short amount of time and see if that fixes it, but i'm open to other suggestions. [editline]13th March 2013[/editline] I could be entirely wrong though on which device does what. I just have no idea how to fix it.
Sounds like you need to open up some ports or/and Edit some other settings for gaming In your router Google "port forwarding"
Sounds like you need to open up some ports or/and Edit some other settings for gaming In your router Google "port forwarding"
I've tried that. In the case of max payne 3, I opened up all the ports on this page and everything and still no dice. Didn't even change anything. Did you open the ports for YOUR local ip?
Did you open the ports for YOUR local ip?
Yeah. I also tried completely disabling the firewall and that didn't work either. [editline]13th March 2013[/editline] I can occasionally find a game with one or two players but it usually kicks me out again after a minute or two. And this is only with P2P games. Games like BF3 or TF2 work just fine.
I did a couple tests and it's failing on the router level. Direct connection to the modem works just fine. I'm going to do some tests andsee where it's failing tomorrow. I'm still open to advice.
You could run a port scanner to see if the ports are open http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm
