Keep backpedaling buckos, your reputation is only getting worse. So glad they're illegal in Portland here in Oregon, Taxis are regulated for a reason.

An automatic system that - without any human intervention - changes prices based purely on a supply / demand curve.
They apologized and refunded customers.
There are questions relating to Uber - for me the safety of the people who are drivers being formost. But this particular instance is a non-issue at best.

Shame taxis suck major ass. If they didn't, uber wouldn't even be popular.
Made me think of that one movie to where time was shekals and the guys mom dies because the buses raised the prices on her

might be automatic but somebody looked at it and went "yes this is good, lets announce it"

That's why a human posted on their Twitter account that they were activating surge pricing? They knew what was going on, and let it happen.

So consumers can be overcharged and they can go on strike whenever an alternative arises?
Also gonna be honest, Uber's rep is only getting better.

They also offered free rides out of the area

I thin k it's more they increased the prices on the customers end because they had no way of just paying all the drivers extra. They were trying to remedy a situation but fucked up a bit and are apologizing for the temporary additional cost to customers.
There's been worse
It's not really their fault, but it would probably be in their interests to take all the Australian profits from that day and donate it to a memorial fund.
That's why a human posted on their Twitter account that they were activating surge pricing? They knew what was going on, and let it happen.
Are you sure about that? It's possible they just have a goon who got automatically notified of surge and posted about it on twitter. Unless the actual message was like "there's a tragedy so prices are up".

Knowing surge pricing was activated doesn't mean they knew how ridiculously it was going to get out of hand.

Funny, you were the only person in the last thread to post the same thing. I wonder why your opinion is so unpopular?
(perhaps because it's clearly idiotic?)
