Too invasive for me, EA. All I want to do is play games, not have to willingly sell my personal information.
I sure as fuck hope that's just a one-time registering thing to link it to your account like the article speculates on.
Otherwise that's just obnoxious.
Before all of you get your panties in a bunch, EA games have required an EA account for a long time, on consoles and PC. It's just called Origin now.
uh this has been on the Xbox 360 and PS3 for awhile
why is everyone mad

Because they love to bash on consoles and origin.

All the PC stuff was optional if you didn't play online though.
Why the fuck are Nintendo even allowing this?
Nintendo is years behind on the whole online thing. They're getting better about it, but they're still not great.
I've always thought the point of consoles (in comparison with PCs) was to be "plug & play", like you insert the cartridge or CD and here you go.
But now with each generation it's like they try to make them more difficult to use.
Why the fuck are Nintendo even allowing this?
Because it's both something they can't ultimately control, and that if they went out of their way to prevent it, EA would pull 3rd party support.
is not the point of Consoles just put the game in play and not worry about downloading
This is the exact same thing they have with the xbox and ps3, I don't know what you're complaining about.
If it was about valve games requiring steam this would be showered in winners, when there's no difference.
I don't support EA, but isn't this a bit hypocritical coming from you guys considering Steam is exactly as invasive as this, if not more?
It's like saying you can't play Orange Box on consoles without Steam

You don't forcibly have to sell your information if you're not going to make any purchases on Steam and instead rely on gifts and/or trading for games. The only thing you'd need that could be considered personal is your email. DOBs could easily be faked (and this applies with EA too, but still).
As soon as people see the word "Origin", everyone turns into a mindless mob.

Uuuuh.
Playing EAs F2P games (like NFS World) do not require any personal info other than the usual name email address and birth.
There isn't gifting/trading games on origin AFAIK...
Only time you put in your address and shit is if you are buying a game or if you are using a coupon code to get a game for free that you would have otherwised payed for.

I think forcing an account on console games individually is a stupid idea. I never had fun having to retype my username/password multiple times to find that a keyboard on a dpad isn't fun.
Good thing I don't buy EA games
This, I couldn't give a shit which service is forcing it onto its users, its just flat out wrong, hell it would be out of order if steam did the same thing (And i think they do on PS3 portal?).
I think steam on PS3 portal 2 was super optional. You could still play coop over PSN without signing into a steam account. Steam on PS3 was to do PC to PS3 coop.

Plus, you got the game for PC too.
That's fucking brilliant this will definitely increase their sales.
Steam is more invasive then origin.

I don't think you quite understand what you're talking about.
I thought EA did this even before Wii U. Hell before Origin.
I remember the days when EA stood for great games and not "online passes" and "failed to connect to EA servers."
I would imagine that many people already have an origin account because of the battlefield series or other games. I really doubt that this is always online DRM or something silly like that since Origin on PC doesn't even have that.
Sounds shitty
It's been like this since the PS2 days. It's EA Online with a different name.

They're making just enough to keep their head above water, unless Nintendo went about it like an inconsiderate fool. EA would have no choice but negotiate they need this market as much if not more than Nintendo needs their support. In other words Nintendo has more leverage than you'd think, and if they play their their cards carefully, they could make this work for everyone.
