So to;dr games that make you work for things are worse than games that dime and nickel you I call bullshit.
Sheesh, what a whiner. I can understand complaints about characters being locked away, because it sucks when you don't have a full roster, but otherwise that's the charm of games with content that you need to EARN. Skins, special arenas, artwork, these are things that require more dedication.
So to;dr games that make you work for things are worse than games that dime and nickel you I call bullshit.
"Games that make you work for things" So you mean, playing the game you paid for in order to play? Or is the new fad buying things to then buy more crap on top of the crap you just bought? Don't give me that "but this is for people who don't have time to play" crap. If they don't have time to play, why the fuck did they buy the game in the first place? To use the box as a glorified paperweight?
games journalists complaining about having to actually play games
games journalists complaining about having to actually play games
They want gaming to be exactly like their job. Something that requires absolutely no effort that literally anybody can do.
remember when we used to have cheat codes that unlocked every character?
First Shack pisses on Resident Evil: REMastered for not being dumbed down for "modern" gamers, now apparently they have an issue with unlocking things through gameplay. And yet they supposedly are against the current "solution" of paid DLC that unlocks stuff(not saying that I am crazy for this one myself, ftr). Has gaming journalism gotten to the point where a game is only "perfect" if it boots up to a white screen with a pair of tits, a hunky masculine chest for the ladies and maybe a cat doing something funny with a HUGE neon "YOU WIN!!!1" in the background rather than, you know, a game?
First Shack pisses on Resident Evil: REMastered for not being dumbed down for "modern" gamers
just fyi: the person whining that REmaster wasn't casual enough for current console idiots is the same person that made this article
I rather have content locked away and unlocking them takes a buttload of effort and doing crazy shit on the highest difficulty or something rather than pay another $5 to unlock it on a piecemeal DLC.

Complains about a mechanic in a game, doesn't offer any suggestions on what to do instead or mention any games with a better system. I don't know what he wants. Microtransactions to unlock stuff early just makes it worse by dicking over people who don't want to pay, having everything unlocked from the start is counter-intuitive to games with customization and replayability.
you aren't buying a locked up game, you've always had to unlock things in games it extends their lifetime. the next level is locked until you beat the previous level: game is locked up not worth the price tag [editline]20th April 2015[/editline] the only unlock system I don't like in games is where you earn ingame currency and have to spend it on unlocks. I like having challenges to unlock artwork, characters, etc
Steven Wong article, move along folks. This guy has to be the most insipid and retarded game "journalist" around right now. He is Kotaku tier bad, actually I think he's worse. [editline]19th April 2015[/editline] This guy must hate the Smash Bro's games.
So, he's upset that games are going back to being good and actually worth putting time into.
I think the point on Battlefield multiplayer is fair. If you are a new player you are going to be at somewhat of a disadvantage. Other players may have things like the straight-pull bolts, heavy barrels or red dot sights on their guns, where each has no disadvantages for using them, but you don't have access to any of them straight away. It didn't really solve that problem, but the system in Black Ops 1 was alright I reckon where you get to choose the order of your unlocks. Call of Duty games have generally been more-balanced in regard to player unlocks anyways. what a dumb shit he should be fired
I'm fine with games that unlock characters, skins, etc when you play through, but only if they have a cheat code that does the same thing. There has been many a time I've loaded up a game and wanted to play it just multiplayer and sighed at the lack of characters and the realization that I cant use them all because I didnt sit down and fucking play through everything.
you aren't buying a locked up game, you've always had to unlock things in games it extends their lifetime. the next level is locked until you beat the previous level: game is locked up not worth the price tag
The difference though is that back in the day if you didn't feel like unlocking stuff you could just enter a cheat code and skip parts of the game if you wanted to. Nowadays you might have to pay actual money to do that.
Progression mechanics increase a game's playability tenfold. It also forces you to play non-optimally in some situations to be rewarded. Just like how if you give an artist a full art studio with everything in it and unlimited funds, it is harder for them to create a masterpiece than an artist who had their options limited and was forced to explore.
