President Porfirio Lobo said the move would free police officers for street patrols in crime-ridden neighbourhoods. Public buses in Honduras are frequently attacked by gangs who rob passengers and extort money from drivers. The Honduran government began deploying troops on the streets last year in response to a public outcry over violent crime and the failure of the police to ensure security. Honduras has the world's highest murder rate, according to the UN, with much of the killing linked to drug-trafficking. In an address to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President Lobo again blamed the international drug trade for the violence afflicting his country. "Our misfortune is to be in between the north and south," Mr Lobo said, referring to Honduras's role as a transit point for South American cocaine being smuggled to the US.
Let's hope they're not corrupt.
I feel like the gangs are just gonna turn the soldiers into more targets for them.
Generally a bad idea to have soldiers doing a police officer's job.
I wonder how Hondurans feel about this. I'm sure having a soldier watch you as your on the bus isn't the most pleasant feeling.
Generally a bad idea to have soldiers doing a police officer's job.
While thats true, gangs are instantly outmatched when it comes to trained soldiers.
While thats true, gangs are instantly outmatched when it comes to trained soldiers.
Not all countries train their soldiers at the same level.
Not all countries train their soldiers at the same level.
I never said they did, did I? I simply said soldiers are typically trained better then poor gang members.
While thats true, gangs are instantly outmatched when it comes to trained soldiers.
Not always, but soldiers are definitely more likely to outmatch them than cops.
I never said they did, did I? I simply said soldiers are typically trained better then poor gang members.
Serious question here. Would it be possible, just once mind you, not asking for a repeat performance here or anything fancy, but would it be possible for you to try to pull the rake out of your ass and not get hyperdefensive/butthurt whenever anyone responds to you in any fashion that doesn't absolutely 110% agree with your preexisting mindset? Just once. That's all I'm asking.

If I was seven and they did this in the US, I would probably be giddy as shit.
If I was seven and they did this in the US, I would probably be giddy as shit.
It would be impossible for the U.S. government to ever do anything even close to this. There would be a massive shitstorm.
I wonder how Hondurans feel about this. I'm sure having a soldier watch you as your on the bus isn't the most pleasant feeling.
I'm sure its loads better than a couple of thugs watching you while you're on the bus.
It would be impossible for the U.S. government to ever do anything even close to this. There would be a massive shitstorm.
During a State of Emergency, some states have an exception that allow them to declare Martial Law in order to keep the peace when regular police units are incapacitated, outnumbered, or otherwise powerless to do so. Then again, if something happens that warrants Martial Law in the states, then chances are the busses aren't going to be running anymore either.
I wonder how Hondurans feel about this. I'm sure having a soldier watch you as your on the bus isn't the most pleasant feeling.
Probably slightly better than having the bus raided by street gangs.
It would be impossible for the U.S. government to ever do anything even close to this. There would be a massive shitstorm.
Joint Task Force Empire Shield.
what are you doing
He was responding to a Chenarus post. Obvs. Chenarus can't present anything in a calm and intelligent matter. That'd just be silly.
Let's hope they're not corrupt.
Turns out the Army IS the gang. Plot twist!
It would be impossible for the U.S. government to ever do anything even close to this. There would be a massive shitstorm.
we sent in soldiers in civil disturbances before, also civil rights. Sure there's a major difference between that and curbing violent crime, but it's happened.
My stepfather lived in the honduras for about a year, wasn't too bad. However he told me about everyone with money had guards in front of their houses and he did too. I'd hear one shoot their shotgun in the air and then the ones that heard the echo followed, and so on. Also goddamn he lost weight when he returned.
Generally a bad idea to have soldiers doing a police officer's job.
I can agree, it's historically not a good thing.
