• I Can't Take "Hardcore" Seriously

So my younger brother is completely into this "Hardcore" scene along with all his friends and the fucking kids around the podunk town where I live. They all really think that they're tough shit and that their music is the only music that ever existed. At first I thought it was pretty cool, because I like Hardcore. I like Bad Brains, Agnostic Front, Leeway, and a lot of other Hardcore bands. After talking to him however, he thinks that Emmure is the definition of Hardcore. He thinks that Madball is the original hardcore band, and he thinks that 2-stepping is cool. All of his fat friends wear tight shirts with big letters and go to local bands' shows every Friday to throwdown. I decided to go along to a few. He likes all these SHITTY local bands that can't fucking play anything but a chuggachugga open D/C/B power chord accompanied by the most gut-wrenching vocals you've ever heard. They don't even know how the first thing about music, still all these Hardcore kiddies think that they're really fucking tough and treat them like they're the only people making music today. My brother showed me this band today: http://www.myspace.com/geodudeschillin He made me listen to the "Get Hit" song, that's about kids at shows... getting hit... and I said that I didn't like it, it's recorded horrendously, they can't even stay on beat, their name is stupid, and if they really think that any of the shit on their page or in their songs makes them "tough" then they've got another thing coming. He passed that little tidbit along to the band themselves and the vocalist, I think, texted me, wanting to fight. :v: I texted him back, told him that even if he could kick my ass, his music is still a joke and if he's really taking himself that seriously that he should go jump off a bridge. I guess my point for writing all of this is to ask. Is there something I'm missing? Is there some secret appeal past all of the fat guys with flatbill hats turned ever so slightly sideways and the shirts with big letters? Is there something about being able to play half of your song with only one hand on the guitar that's more appealing than it seems? Do these people really take themselves that seriously? Bands I'm talking about - Emmure Winds of Plague Have Heart Liferuiner Worldbreaker The Acacia Strain Stand United < really... The Edgecore shit makes me want to puke. xTyrantx [editline]05:22PM[/editline] Any time I point out any of these facts to my brother his response is unfailingly - "Yeah, well... Why don't you say that to their face, they'd kick your ass!"

I'm just glad there are still sane people who can ask themselves these kind of questions out there.
are you seriously gonna tell me you can't take the acacia strain srsly? baby buster, cable ready techno slut, brown note and why is a raven like a writing desk are all brilliant
The thing is that I can even see the appeal in the music. I even like Liferuiner, Emmure, and The Acacia Strain a bit. There's nothing wrong with the simplicity of it all if they didn't tout it as the greatest thing that ever happened to music. It's fun to groove to, but any time I'm around any of the HxC kiddies that's all they talk about. I take Slipknot more seriously than I take Emmure, though. [editline]05:29PM[/editline] It's like rap artists that rap about how great they are. I really couldn't care less, and writing a stupid song about it just makes me resent you for it.
I want the world to have my rape baby so when it's born I can strangle it to death.
I want the world to have my rape baby so when it's born I can strangle it to death.
See, every time I walk into the same room as my brother he says some stupid shit like that. You have no idea how many times I've heard that line. That's not even that brutal... or whatever you guys call it. Acid Bath or Cannibal Corpse has 10x more brutal lyrics, and they also know how to play music.
i'm not really white knighting for acacia strain, and yeah that can probably get annoying
Oh, and don't get me started on "Hate Edge"... At one show, some dumbass edge kid wanted to fight me because I was wearing a bandanna with pot leaves on it. "E Cannabis Unum"
It's for people who think they're coolness depends on what music they listen to.
It's for people who think they're coolness depends on what music they listen to.
This.
This.
This
This
Yes. Anyways I really don't care what group or scene or whatever people put themselves into; as long as they aren't forcing me to do anything then I don't see what the problem is.
hXc > ur stupid rap crap
If Minor Threat and Negative FX were all still playing and they had to play with this new generation of the Hardcore scene, I think these kiddies would have saw a real Hardcore pit, got their scenester asses beat, and learned some history. But that's my opinion..
It's all opinion, I love Acacia Strain, Whitechapel and all those bands. If you don't like it chill out and shut up. Live and let live.
It's all opinion, I love Acacia Strain, Whitechapel and all those bands. If you don't like it chill out and shut up. Live and let live.
You have a better attitude than most of the metalheads on this forum :v:
That song Get Hit is like a really gay version of Toxic Waltz by Exodus.
it's metal without the honesty and without the intelligence it USUALLY has (lol venom blah blah) and without the skill
The only hardcore I like is post-hardcore. Because adding "post" to the beginning of any genre makes it a lot cooler.
I agree emmure is utter shit, along with basically everything else similar to that band.
I agree emmure is utter shit, along with basically everything else similar to that band.
It seems like bashing every band similar to emmure because you don't like them is a very sweeping and prejudiced generalization.
It seems like bashing every band similar to emmure because you don't like them is a very sweeping and prejudiced generalization.
Hmm I am pretty sure he realizes that and probably doesn't care.
It's all opinion, I love Acacia Strain, Whitechapel and all those bands. If you don't like it chill out and shut up. Live and let live.
I already said that I even like the music. Read, why don't you? I'm honestly attempting to become cultured, but it seems that this style of music is more about being a tough guy than about... like... music.
it's metal without the honesty and without the intelligence it USUALLY has (lol venom blah blah) and without the skill
This is basically the way I feel about it.
Oh, our local core bands really aren't near that bad. Except for this one. holy shit they were generic :v: [editline]12:05AM[/editline] and hardcore was originally pretyy much about being a tough guy, wasn't it? A tough guy for a cause, mind you, but still a tough guy
The music is about the music, not about the image. I've never seen a local core band tout how tough they are. I'm friends with the drummer of a local band and he's actually a really nice guy, and so is the rest of them. [editline]04:15AM[/editline] All I'm saying is don't judge a book by its cover, go see some of those bands live sometime, get to know the members. Actually throwing down at a show is a COMPLETELY different experience.
If anything is considered hardcore or br00tal, it's Meshuggah http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=meshuggah&search_type=&aq=f all the other stuff is just annoying.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-1LRkaOEkY This is why im full of hate!
Emmure is my favorite band! But even though I love this type of music I don't ever let it conflict with my additute, I don't try to be a punk hardass.
