What's the point in analysing the persona of Obama? Just focus on his presidential attributes. He might be good at sweet-talking, but he's shown his ruthless in dealing with critical decisions like bombing Gadafi's convoy trying to flee Libya. Do some research into the Cuban missile crysis; JFK was gonna give the green light of nuking Cuba if the soviet military facilities there didn't get shipped back. So yeah, I'd say the US has your back, Australia. And it's not like you have other options on the table. There's not much Australia has to gain from a millitary alliance with China, India or a Japan with bigger ambitions.
