So apparently this is a real thread made by someone who is clearly concerned with smoking in film. In fact, while googleing "smoking in movies", I came across a site that is dedicated to defending those who are exposed to the horrors of a character smoking. Because I think chain smoking shows a lot about a character, I was looking for some movies that involved the main character smoking. What are some good ones? Yeah I know I'm weird for asking. What are some good movies with main characters who smoke? Do you think it's okay to show cigarettes in today's movies? The Vicious Kind Fight Club Rushmore Fuck it, even Youth in Revolt
You forgot every western ever made.
You forgot every western ever made.
Yeah you're right. I threw some modern movies up there because now more than ever people are crazy about showing a cigarette anywhere.
They're overreacting, as usual.

I know the guy in The Hurt Locker smoked.
I don't think smoking should be in rated G animated films but other than that I have no problem with it as it is part of the character.
Fact: Smoking cigarettes, cigars, and pipes are the best props for actors. EVER.
crulle de vil smokes in 101 dalmatians they should make it rated R
crulle de vil smokes in 101 dalmatians they should make it rated R
I agree. I think smoking in movies is pretty cool. One more prop that may show people have habits, brings them down to a normal status almost for me.
I don't think smoking should be in rated G animated films but other than that I have no problem with it as it is part of the character.
As thirteen said, the bitch in 101 Dalmatians smoked, and her character would be MUCH different without that. Hell, even the animated Alice In Wonderland I think was rated at least PG and the caterpillar uses the hookah like each scene he's in.
Is this a joke? No one actually cares about smoking in movies in fact smoking is less controversial now than it has been in years.

Would you want to be anything like her? They aren't making her look 'cool and hip'.
How about you forget Chinatown!?
I just thought that I'd point out that at no point in the movie "Thank You For Smoking" does any character ever actually smoke. [editline]10:10AM[/editline] If you don't believe me just watch it.
I remember reading in the Bombay times years ago that they banned smoking in movies (in India). I think they lifted that ban a while ago though. To be honest, the whole affair is just dumb. I've seen tons of movies with smoking in them, and I don't smoke.

I disagree with people that think smoking on movies is a bad influence. Just because john McClain does doesn't mean im going to start.

When I was in middle school or something they school was making the argument that if someone smokes in a movie that it should automatically be R rated because the fact that the characters smoking in the movie look cool, the kids watching the movie will want to imitate it to get that cool look. I think that is a terrible argument and I think that smoking shouldn't be a concern in the movie. There are far worse things in movies than smoking.
Ever seen Double Indemnity? [IMG]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V4B6Gb9FovU/Sw4JbyEbduI/AAAAAAAAAw8/SRyFdoXSHYc/s1600/DoubleIndemnity-neff_keyes7[1].jpg[/IMG]

The place I work at sells your basic Marlboro's for like $60 a carton.
