I was wondering if there was any way I could get the sound schemes from older Windows versions such as 98.
I googled it but there's a lot of results for trying to get sound on 98 instead of the sound schemes
it wont be too hard, exept some of the sounds are loaded into DLL's in vista(such as start up!) but you'll find the rest in C:\Windows\Media for both OS. (although, win98 may have a different path)
I've got a Windows 98 CD, I don't think it's the install CD but will it help?

Not unless you install it.
As he said, the files are in C:\Windows\Media on Windows 98.
I'll see if I can find one of my CDs around my house and install them in a VM so I can rip the sound scheme for you. I've been wanting the startup sound for a while now, anyways.

Haha I tried to install it but Vista said "no no, you cannot install Windows 98 on this computer"

That's the best advice I can give you.
Install Windows 98 in that, then install the virtual machine additions, drag and drop the files from the virtual machine to your desktop and you'll have the sound files. :)
use this to change the startup sound:

and "control panel-> Sound -> Sounds" to change other sounds to the 98 ones when they're copied over.
