CHYEA! After a BS week of learning crap about the HMMWV and absolutly nothing about the LMTV, I took the day and night driving test and got my license to drive these two vehicles. This is a HMMWV. (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles) This big ass bitch is a LMTV M1078 (Light Medium Tactical Vehicle) It's a pain in the ass to drive. Here's another picture. We learned everything we needed to know to drive the HMMWV, however, we didn't get told shit about the LMTV. I got inside the driver's seat and had no idea how to operate it, I got told how to turn it on, release the parking brake and then took it out on the crowded road. Then that night we had to use NVGs (Night Vision Goggles) to drive each vehicle on a muddy ass trail in the woods. We didn't have our helmets with us so instead of mounting it on our helmet we held it up to our eyes with one hand and drove with the other hand on the wheel. Man Call of Duty just about got it down as far as accuracy goes with the NVGs. It sucks though because when you look around you have to constantly adjust the focus depending on the distance of the object you're looking at.
Congrats. Those look like alot of fun to drive.
Congrats. Those look like alot of fun to drive.
Night vision was fun, but driving the LMTV on the roads with people driving their personal cars made me nervous. The brakes are way to sensitive on the LMTV.
Oh, you got THAT type of drivers' license. I was expecting a shitty audi with rust by the tires. Nice work.
Is there some official "title" for this license? I can change the title so people don't think you're every other person in the world with a drivers license... your current title isn't exactly descriptive
Yeah, I agree. But, totally fucking badass.
At first i thought this thread was you just getting your regular licensee, Then i saw the Humvee and was like wow the military made you take it in that fucking awesome. Then i noticed it was basically just certifications for you to drive those.
Is there some official "title" for this license? I can change the title so people don't think you're every other person in the world with a drivers license... your current title isn't exactly descriptive
I guess you could just add military in from of "driving."
Using night vision goggles sucks massive cocks. I used to hit trees all the fucking time because I got lazy with the focus. I have no idea of how you pulled it off with one hand, while driving.
We did a small convoy and I was always in the middle so I was going as slow as the guy in front of me, we couldn't have been driving any faster than maybe 10 to 15mph
And Im just starting driving school this monday. :frown:
I was about to make a snidey 'this isnt your blog' comment. Then I saw the pics. Nice work.
I was about to make a snidey 'this isnt your blog' comment. Then I saw the pics. Nice work.
Well I put shit post for it because I was bored and couldn't fall asleep so I sort of just posted out of boredom.
Just curious. But whats the MPG on these things?
Just curious. But whats the MPG on these things?
I honestly have no clue. http://www.baesystems.com/BAEProd/groups/public/documents/bae_publication/bae_pdf_mps_m1114.pdf There's some info, although that hmmwv has a little bit more armor. But it being as heavy as it is, I don't imagine it getting good gas mileage. We're getting rid of hmmwv's and switching completely to these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRAP And I heard that if the MRAP flips upside down it can crush itself under it's own weight. Anyway, I think more weight= less MPG
The MRAP looks really un-american to me. If that makes any sense. It looks like something the Russians would manufacture and sell to other countries during the cold war.

The under side has a V shape to it to divert the blast away from the cab. Look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cougar_Hit_By_IED.jpg
This Cougar was hit in Al Anbar, Iraq by a directed charge IED approximately 300-500 lbs in size. All crew members survived the blast and went out the next day.
It does it's job. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stryker This looks like a Russian one from COD:MW
I totally thought you were like a 16 year old that just got your license and you decided as your first post on FP is to announce it to us. Grats.
I'm jealous

Wonder if it was a unexploded bomb that was modified. Or if it was all home-made. ( getting a little off-topic here) [editline]11th June 2011[/editline]
I'm jealous
Yeah i am too. My class C texas drivers license feels insecure now.

Be like Generation Kill Humvee sing-alongs
Be like Generation Kill Humvee sing-alongs
I wish they would re-air that series. I only saw one or two episodes. and I am too cheap to rent/buy the series. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] also whats the top speed of the LMTV M1078
I wish they would re-air that series. I only saw one or two episodes. and I am too cheap to rent/buy the series. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] also whats the top speed of the LMTV M1078
The speedometer goes up to 80 but we never drive faster than 45-50 (mostly because they tell us not to drive faster than 45) http://www.military-today.com/trucks/m1078_lmtv.htm This page says 58mph or 94km/h
Man I should get my licence I could have got it almost 2 years ago v:v:v

Uparmoured humvee? Also, are you limited to these vehicles? Or others? M-ATV? Mraps?
Uparmoured humvee? Also, are you limited to these vehicles? Or others? M-ATV? Mraps?
Yes I am limited to these vehicles. Until I take a class or an NCO of mine trains me and has a piece of paper signed by the commander saying I can drive them. Regular Hmmwv http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hmmwv-036.jpg Up Armored http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=115 There are different levels of armor, the one I drove is a lower level one.
Is it bumpy.
That "student driver" plaque makes them look cute.
