Check this article out, US congress is going to be voting on a "10 Strike" bill that will literally slap you with a felony and possibly put you in jail if you stream, or post any media online. That means, gmod videos with your favorite music. Streaming tv shows or movies. Doing a live DJ set online. And even a video of you/ friends singing karaoke! http://act.demandprogress.org/act/ten_strikes/?referring_akid=.207600.vVKFrS&source=typ-tw On the same page is a short letter you can sign, to help show congress that we are against this. :regd09: ...UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE... For those of you who didn't sign the petition (or didn't provide a real email adress), here's an update: Thanks for urging your lawmakers to oppose Senator Klobuchar's legislation to criminalize video and audio streaming. Nearly 150,000 of you have taken action -- and yesterday we learned that the powers that be are stunned by the opposition and are considering killing the bill.We need your help once again: Demand Progress has spent months fighting a piece of legislation that's even worse than the streaming bill. We've been calling it the Internet Blacklist Bill because it will drastically increase the government's power to censor the Internet. It'll only take a second. PROTECT IP would give the government the power to force Internet service providers, search engines, and other "information location tools" to block users' access to sites that have been accused of copyright infringement -- the initiation of a China-style censorship regime here in the United States. It has already passed the Senate Judiciary Committee -- we need to act right away. Basically this is the same thing Canada is going through, law makers/ corporations demanding a censored internet. Please take a minute to "sign" and send this off, as well...REJECT THE PROTECT IP ACT
this is stupid
:suicide:
Wow really?
I can't wait till the internet generation comes in to power, because right now all the old fogies who don't have a clue are in power
I hate my own country more every day.
I can't wait till the internet generation comes in to power, because right now all the old fogies who don't have a clue are in power
umm the young always get old. they said that in the 60's, i can't wait until we can smoke weed and drop acid all day. nothings changed.
It's partially due to lobbyists. Congress is being convinced to put these bills into action by the RIAA and others because nobody else is saying anything in the effect of why this is a bad idea, and plus congress currently doesn't seem to give a shit about the internet.

Which means we also have the power to persuade, given it will take 10x more of us to push our side than it will for the big money.

You SERIOUSLY think this will pass? REALLY?
Why would police waste time arresting streamers anyway? :v:
How many times has something like this supposed to have been passed?
America is only good for making pictures with Abe Lincoln riding on an eagle shooting at cows and chickens with dual m60's. [editline]30th June 2011[/editline] Shit like this.
You SERIOUSLY think this will pass? REALLY?
Even if Congress approves it, the President can still veto. So don't worry just because our government is full of old fuckwits.
im so glad i live in canada
Wow. My cousins sister always uploads youtube videos of karaoke. They're fucked.
Honestly I hate to admit it but as long as it's profitable and as long as media companies keep assraping everything in sight with lobbyists. the internet is going to keep doing this path, and this path leads over a precipice and drops into an abyss known as Anti-Net Neutrality. Soon you will HAVE to use your real name. Soon, the internet will have no anonymity. Soon, the internet will fall back into the same stupid pecking orders and social ladders and popular intolerance that plague everyday life. gg internet gg =[
Dumb bill, won't pass. Something being made a bill in no way at all means that it will become a law, it just means that somebody proposed it as an idea. Anybody who's crying, "I hate my country more every day :'( ," needs to take a moment to review how laws are actually made, so they can see that they're getting worked up over nothing.
Dumb bill, won't pass.
This is most likely true, but the scary part is, we've allowed MPAA / RIAA to maintain a successful business model thus far by pulling stunts like this in the past. We can only hope they go bankrupt with the money they throw into these bills.
Isn't a big problem in some places the amount of space we have in jail? or how about how our courts are already backed up as it is? or are we just going to skip court, and throw the people directly in jail? i'm going to be straight, this is fucking stupid, and hasn't been thought out at all.
im so glad i live in canada
Yeah go find my internet surveillance thread, our situation is going to get MUCH worse like, China worse
I'm glad I'm not american :smug:
I'm probably safe in Norway.
Do they give you some kind of warning?
As I recall this only covers situations where more than $2000 or something had been made through the copyright breach.

It probably won't pass, but I still sent an e-mail. Gotta practice my liberties.
I don't live in America, so your government can suck my balls
