Rio Tinto’s Kennecott mine in Utah- the US’ 2nd largest silver mine and world’s largest copper mine has just suffered a massive landslide which will likely shut down production at the mine for years as upwards of 1 billion tons of dirt and ore have collapsed into the basin.
http://silverdoctors.com/10-of-us-annual-silver-supply-just-vaporized/
I guess we'll just have to settle for bronze now
Those pictures... I couldn't even tell what was what, that landslide is so massive...
Does this mean the value of my silver is finally going to jump?
Wow
Is there a higher res version of this?
Wow
That looks surreal. Thank god no one was injured.
Holy shit It's humbling to think that shit like this can just happen
There are some high res images in the source that are spectacular.

I was there a day before the slide, that's all I was hearing about. They knew it was coming months in advance btw
I was there a day before the slide, that's all I was hearing about. They knew it was coming months in advance btw
That's good, "damn we have less silver now" is a better headline than "HUNDREDS DEAD AT MINE"
The price of silver is going to skyrocket. Likely not coming down for several years. If you do have the opportunity to buy, I would recommend it.
Wow Thatcher just won't be happy until all the mines are shut down huh
God damn, dude. Somebody didn't do a proper soil and erosion study before they dug that hole.
Those pictures are fucking stunning, they look like paintings, or they have been edited
Oh please tell me someone filmed this as it happened. I really want to see it collapse.
The price of silver is going to skyrocket. Likely not coming down for several years. If you do have the opportunity to buy, I would recommend it.
does this apply worldwide?
this is the coolest pic [t]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8530/8644408606_aab414d3cc_k.jpg[/t]
does this apply worldwide?
Given how intertangled the world economy is, I'm sure it'll affect it on some level.
[t]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8392/8643313351_abb6624f9a_z.jpg[/t] this, just to put it to scale [t]http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQQKjaquGrszodZ7fDzK59ok9hen9oNhDx2frOMz-ikmmZnoP-mcg[/t] [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] like a lil tonka truck burried in someone's sandbox
Seeing the pictures along with the vehicles and buildings in them and I still have trouble comprehending the sheer size of this.
though something seems off with this story, just googling it i got a page full of varrying numbers, and they all seem to quote the same story from one source [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] im fairly certain tommorow morning when silver opens, the price is gonna skyrocket, but its setbacks like these that often lead to innovation in production, the largest rare-earth mine in the U.S. had a massive holding pool collapse a few years ago, now its been completely retooled and is able to pull rare-earths out of wastes that no other mine on the planet can do

My dad always buys me silver for christmas, thanks dad!
And the land taketh away
I've been to Kennecott, it's a tourist attraction because of how fucking massive it is.
Brilliant photos, the dirt is so fine it looks like liquid from that distance It's as if the top of the mountain abruptly melted under the heat of the sun
