Who is DeVotchKa?
DeVotchKa is a four piece multi-instrumental/vocal band that is often considered by fans, "A genre of its own". Their many styles are varied and diverse (Gypsy, Mariachi, and Rock), their instruments even more so (Sousaphone, Violin, Contra-bass, Electric guitar, and Maracas).
Their name is "Little Girl" in Russian, but despite their name and their perceived foreign musical styles; The band is actually based in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A..

DeVotchKa's bass player, but not just any bass... Jeanie switches in between playing a contra-bass, or a sousaphone, which is basically the same thing as a tuba, the bass of the brass instruments.

DeVotchKa's drums, percussion, and trumpet player.
Shawn is a unique addition to the band. He often drums with one hand and plays a maraca in the other. Tom too, plays a maraca during his rests. This is one of the few bands that I've known that add the maracas and shaking instruments in their rock styled songs.

Finally...
This isn't an ordinary band at all. While their demographic would be older because of the traditional instruments, I have this suspicion that they are trying reach to younger audiences through their fusing with rock.
Please, have a taste.
"The Winner Is...", in my opinion, is their best song.
I must say, "Such A Lovely Thing" is quite an adored song on my computer
Sounds extremely interesting, I gotta give them a try someday.
