Heya.
So the other day my father told me that since i'm listening to so much prog-metal and such i should look up this band called "camel". I got an old LP off of him and sat down with it, needless to say i fell completely in love with them. I listen to Dream theater, Pagans mind and the such, and i didn't really expect that i'd fall so completely for this music after hearing one or two songs but after listening through several albums i just couldn't get enough of it, and i'd like to share it with you guys.
Well, enough me talk, here's the obligatory wikipedia-paste.
Camel are an English progressive rock band formed in 1971. An important figure in the Canterbury scene, the group has been releasing studio and live recordings steadily, with considerable success, since their formation.[1] Andrew Latimer (guitar), Andy Ward (drums) and Doug Ferguson (bass) had been playing as a trio called The Brew around the Guildford, Surrey area of England. They recruited Peter Bardens (keyboards) and after an initial gig to fulfill a Bardens commitment on 8 October 1971 in Belfast, Northern Ireland under the name of Peter Bardens' On, they changed their name to Camel and their first gig was at Waltham Forest Technical College, London supporting Wishbone Ash on 4 December
Well, the flesh of this band is the keyboardist Peter bardens which pretty much writes all of the songs and lyrics. He's what you would call a modern day musical genius, and is extremely good at composing and producing music. The band also has some kick-ass guitar solos and deep, poetic lyrics.
Now for some songs.
From my favourite album, "pressure points":

And off of "Harbour of tears"
Irish air (instrumental, this one's beautyfull)

Remember, i wasn't really impressed with this music at first, but buy an album and listen to the entire thing, this music is also about the way the songs interact and the tune builds as you listen to them.
I started listening to Camel a week or two ago and they're fantastic!
I love their Selftitled, I Can See Your House From Here!, Nude and Dust and Dreams albums
I found out about them through Mikael Akerfeldt's Myspace, his list of influences is basically a massive list of awesome bands
Camel are like a must-have prog band how did you guys not know about this
Bumpin'
Because they're way too overlooked.
Personally I find their early stuff the best (Mirage, Snow Goose, Moonmadness)
Pretty classic prog rock band, very jazzy in later years often sounding more like Canterbury. Good stuff
I have three of their albums, Moonmadness, Breathless and Rain Dances. You can usually find them for really cheap and a couple of their albums are on spotify for those who want a listen.
