Bottled Water Company Hands Out Free Water Just To Troll Envirormentalists

[release]A bottled water company chose a novel way to celebrate Bottled Water Free Day on Thursday - inviting Toronto residents to "Get free bottled water today."
Cedar Springs, based in Concord, Ont., gave away four 11 L or 18 L glass bottles of water to people who called and asked for them. The company even offered to deliver the bottles to the callers' homes.
“We wanted to do our own spin on Bottled Water Free Day by sharing spring water with our community,” said Cedar Springs vice-president Craig Hayhoe.
“Spring water is simply the purest and healthiest beverage you can buy and we’re giving it away today for free.”
But the idea of giving away free bottled water doesn't exactly jive with the intended message of Bottled Water Free Day. Organized in Canada by the Canadian Federation of Students, Sierra Youth Coalition and the Polaris Institute, the purpose is to raise awareness about the negative impacts of bottled water.
“Across the country students are standing up against the wasteful bottled water industry,” Noah Stewart, national deputy chairman of the Canadian Federation of Students, said in a release. “Tired of having to pay Coca Cola, Pepsi or Nestle for a drink of water, we’re calling on schools to ban the sale of bottled water and re-invest in water fountains.” Municipalities and school boards across the country have implemented restrictions on bottled water.
“The success of Bottled Water Free Day shows the strength of the back-to-the-tap movement,” said Elly Adeland, water and energy campaigner for the Polaris Institute. “Bottled Water sales in North America have plummeted and across the country Canadians are pledging to kick the bottle - clearly the tap is making a comeback.”[/release]

I love when companies troll people, it's so great to watch.
Haha those environmentalists are going to water up at this news.
Not drinking bottled water isn't an environmental thing, it's more of a not being a dumbass with money thing.
But still, lol.
I'm sure a few weeks from now this will all be water under the bridge.
i guess you could say.... environmentalists are wet behind the ears... xD
the environmentalists should learn to bottle their baby environmental conservationism attitude xD

Holy shit these last two puns suck.
They're not forced to buy bottled water. Never in a public institution have I seen bottled water as the sole source of water. There's always water fountains.
Also, I'm not one for puns, but TeamGiant had the best one here.
I guess the enviromentalists couldn't keep there anger bottled up anymore

The "chairman of the Canadian Federation of Students" said
“Tired of having to pay Coca Cola, Pepsi or Nestle for a drink of water, we’re calling on schools to ban the sale of bottled water and re-invest in water fountains.”
clearly, if they say that they need to re-invest in water fountains, then they feel that the water fountains they have in schools now are insufficient. This is a good thing, it's less wasteful and less costly to the students. Oftentimes the environmentally sound choice is also the financially sound one

yo if you're gonna spam shitty puns everywhere at least learn the proper use of "they're" before you do so, ok bro?
I want free glassed water, that sounds awesome.
His name is Hayhoe.
Toronto Ontario? Fuck I wish I knew about them.
Why the fuck do people start their puns with some stupid shit like "I guess/You can guess"? Seriously.
Bottles of water should have deposit on them, waste problem solved.
Seriously, here in Michigan, pop cans/bottles have a $0.10 deposit on them, and that makes everyone save all their bottles/cans and take them in for recycling. It works great for pop/beer, so why not water bottles?
Agree, my family makes $50 in one trip to return cans and such, Michigan is cool with thier deposit, and also no food tax.
What if they recycle the water bottles?
Ah, i prefer bottled to tap water because i like my water without flouride and i just like the taste of spring water.

Cool. I lika da Michigan
I didn't realize they used glass for those water cooler bottles. Seems kind of scary, if you were to drop it.
Wait what, they don't want me to drink bottled water? Fuck them bottled water is so much better than tap water (the one in glass bottles at least).

I would like to see this trend continue.
Bottled water is portable, compared to a drinking fountain which is not.
A lot of our track students go and buy bottled water from our school's vending machines after school. It's really convenient.
I have always preferred the taste of tap water. Bottled tastes horrible.

Back before bottled water became popular most people just had a bottle that was reusable and refillable and they'd just bring that to sporting events.
But water fountains are disgusting since people always stick their dirty gob on the end of the tap and spit in them.

It's convenient, but all that plastic is shitting up landfills. You can also get one of those refillable water bottles, like Mexican said, and if you need more water than that you can get one of those small beverage coolers. In the long run, it's so much cheaper and less wasteful.
But water fountains are disgusting since people always stick their dirty gob on the end of the tap and spit in them.
I just try to block that out usually. Ignorance is bliss.
This isn't to troll environmentalists, if it was, they'd have handed out plastic bottles which would just be in terrible taste. Glass is a-okay in our eyes.
the argument against bottled water (besides plastic use) is just that it's fucking retarded to pay more for something that isn't held to strict standards. Tap is tested 40 times a day to make sure levels are perfect. There's no federal statutes on bottled water for purity...most of the time, it's actually just tap with a bit of sodium added to make it taste different.

Bad pun bans shall weed out the weak and lead us back to the news pun glory days.
