I've been organizing this with Daijitsu and now it is ready to post! No none of you faggots have a say in any of this :v: Where we are going: We'll be going to the Brookfield Zoo on December 30th for their Holiday Magic event. We will be arriving there at 1pm and staying until 11pm (You may leave sooner if you're a little baby of course). Transportation to the Zoo: If you live along the BNSF Railway Line between Union and Hollywood: Jump on the train and head to Hollywood (Zoo Stop). You're going to want to get a train that drops you off close to 1pm. Which means, if you're coming from Halsted, Western, Cicero, LaVergne, Harlem, or Riverside, you'll be jumping onto the train with everyone else that got on at Union. (I will be getting on at Cicero). If you live along the BNSF Railway Line between Aurora and Hollywood: If you're coming from the Aurora direction you're going to be getting there like 10 minutes after us. Thanks for making us wait you dick. That being said just get on a train and head to Hollywood. No you are not getting off at Brookfield you're getting off at Hollywood. But Telepethi, you violent and abusive stud you, what if I don't live along the BNSF Railway? If you don't live along the BNSF Metra line, take your nearest Metra line or CTA line (busses or subway) to Chicago Union Station. Or walk, or ride a bike. I don't fucking care. Be there before 12:30. Preferably by a half hour. What are we going to Union for? Daijitsu will be coming in on the 9:11 train from Antioch and will arrive at Union around 10:40. He is going to be there for almost two hours organizing everyone for the 12:30 train to Aurora. Listen to him or so help me I will slap you, god knows Dai is too nice to slap anyone. What time are we leaving/arriving/going home to suckle at mommy's teat Leaving: December 30th, 2010 @ 12:30 from Chicago Union Station on the BNSF Railway Line. Schedules will be below for how to get there. Arriving: December 30th, 2010 @ ~12:55 at Hollywod (Zoo Stop) along the BNSF Railway Line. Staying Until: 11:00pm or until your mommy/daddy/little baby in your head decides to go home. We will have around 3 hours in which we can fuck around and look at the zoo as the zoo, because the Winter thing doesn't start until 4pm. It runs from 4pm to 9pm. We're staying until the park closes, then we're going to a pizza joint near the Brookfield stop (like 10 minutes walking from the Zoo) to make them very happy with our large purchases. It is a good pizza place. This sounds great! But hold on... great things cost money. How much am I paying to hang with you faggots? The Brookfield Zoo normally costs $13.50 for admission, their website claims that Thursdays admission is free which is why we picked this day. 99% sure that admission is free, but just in case bring money for admission. If you forget, we're not paying for you (someone might but they'll hate you for it and rate you dumb with their fists). Shit costs money in the Zoo. It's expensive because they're greedy assholes. If you want a drink you're better off bringing your own bottle of soda from a vending machine elsewhere. If not be prepared for your wallet to scream when you go to buy a 10 ounce bottle of water. (That being said bring money for inside the zoo just in case.) After the zoo we will be going to a pizza place, we will be getting a massive amount of food to feed our fat forum trolling selves. Bring money for this. We are splitting the cost of whatever we buy amongst the group. If you don't pay you don't eat shit. Metra Fare: As far as I know, Fare from Union to Hollywood should be around $2.50 to $4.00 each way. I don't know what fare costs for you to get to Union so figure that out on your own. Sorry. Confirmed Attendee List:

Telepethi (Organizer)
Daijitsu (Organizer)
Anita_Lynn (Dai's girlfriend, official group mother-hen)
Dalndox (Dai's RL friend he's dragging kicking and screaming)
Echlarx (Dalndox's girlfriend)
Kcorbx (friend of Dai and Dal, yet another X)
Political Gamer (don't let him near tea cups)
-Dazed-
Uncomfirmed Attendee List:

Richard Simmons
GreenDolphin
Sporkfire
-Dazed-
Explosions
DruggedEllis
Intoxicated Spy
Theseltsamone
Not coming:

Most Everyone!
Concerned he may be raped

BagMinge104
Schedules: BNSF Railway Line - You want the Chicago to Aurora Outbound Schedule: Weekday (Part 1 of 3) schedule if you're coming from between Union and Hollywood (Zoo Stop) NCS Railway Line - You want the Antioch to Chicago Inbound Schedule: Weekday (Part 1 of 1) if you're coming from the direction Dai lives. All other schedules can be found here. Just select your line and click "View full timetable". Other Modes of Transportation: Driving: If you drive to the Zoo you're going to have to pay $9 to park there. You're better off using the Metra or Metro. Bicycling: The zoo has bike racks, and so does the train station. If you zip ahead of us we will throw rocks at you to get you to fall off, then laugh. Walking: Great! You're doing the same thing we are! Meet us at the Hollywood station around 12:50-1:00pm Special Occasions It is Dalndox's birthday on the 30th, so everyone bring a baseball bat so we can mug him and leave him on the street bleeding. (By that I mean when he gets off the train everyone scream at him)
upon his banning I'm updating the thread don't worry I got this Can't wait for this. Anyone who hasn't been in the city during winter, bring twice as much to wear, the wind off the lake is killer. also boots. Sloshy gray snow everywhere.
Oh right I almost forgot. Special Occasions It is Dalndox's birthday on the 30th, so everyone bring a baseball bat so we can mug him and leave him on the street bleeding. (By that I mean when he gets off the train everyone scream at him) [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] My Automerge! :argh:
how do i know you really know where this is you are crap at geography
brookfield is still open in the December?
I am not Hezzy is just irritated that I don't know much about English geography. :colbert: [editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
brookfield is still open in the December?
Yes. They're open year round. Hence why they're having a Christmas thing.
It's his birthday on the 30th? Good to know.
I'm suprised you're holding a meetup outside of Europe
I'm suprised you're holding a meetup outside of Europe
Well Dai organized one for Halloween in the Chicagoland area.
Yes. They're open year round. Hence why they're having a Christmas thing.
I guess I just never bothered thinking about the zoo being open in December. I might want to go, I haven't been there for atleast 8 years now.
True.
I guess I just never bothered thinking about the zoo being open in December. I might want to go, I haven't been there for atleast 8 years now.
Well admission is free Tuesdays through Thursdays October through December if I recall correctly. I think it's free Sundays December through January. But I only saw that once and it hasn't been on the website since.
Chicago's not too far a drive for me, but right between Christmas and New Years'? I don't think I could make it out there during that window. I've got familial obligations and whatnot.
It's only one day :v:
At first when I saw brookfield I was oh snap that is like 5 minutes away awesome then I saw the zoo then I was like brookfield don't have a fucking zoo. Then I noticed it isn't the brookfield 5 minutes away from me. So I am once again out even though I don't have anything going on that day (I am not fucking driving to fucking chicago. I do NOT want to experience how horribly they drive in the winter thank you.)
Yeah, but it's six hours' drive out of my way. I'd be totally cool with a meet-up during any other time, but if I were going that far out I'd need a hotel for the night, and I'd be late for the festivities on New Years' Eve. I live out by Saint Louis.
Well admission is free Tuesdays through Thursdays October through December if I recall correctly. I think it's free Sundays December through January. But I only saw that once and it hasn't been on the website since.
Probably too large of an crowd that comes Sundays and they weren't raking in the cash. Regardless, the admission fee is decent, and they don't charge a crazy price. Also, please note that there is MANY metra lines that go into chicago. You got the UP lines that arrive in Ogilvie (Old C&NW station). The NW line leaves Crystal Lake every hour, except during rush periods, and for the lunch break. So at 1:00 there is no train. Also, on the BNSF there is a break hour between 10.20->12.30 (out of Aurora). To get from OTC (Ogilvie Transportation Center/Citigroup Building), Walk out the main doors to Madison, and cross the street. Walk down to the river, and walk down the steps towards the rails. When inside, follow around the concourse (Only MD-N/MD-W and amtrak service that concourse you walk in on) to the other end. This is where the BNSF trains live. There is many ways to get there though. If you don't feel like taking the train (Hollywood is seriously just a few minutes away, so its a brisk walk, but a quick one) you can drive. Just take 294 to Cermak, and go east. Drive down to Rte 171, and go south. There will be signs and all that around, so you shouldn't get lost. But certainly put me down for "maybe attending", and see no one at this point enlist :)
Would you really trust a guy with "CRAP AT GEOGRAPHY" as a title to organise a trip?

Would anyone trust a 2010er with 148 posts to dictate who to trust? Simmons: Yeah probably. Shit inside is still expensive as fuck though. As far as the trains, I know. I have a schedule, plus I linked schedules for NCS and where to get others in the OP :v:
you'll have to take my word when I say we don't drive during the winter. We ice-skate economy style.
Ok then I dont want to hit any crazy as shit skaters who try to fucking cut me off :argh:
Ok then I dont want to hit any crazy as shit skaters who try to fucking cut me off :argh:
It's not that bad, Jord. Where do you live and how far away of a drive/train ride are you from Chicago?
you'll have to take my word when I say we don't drive during the winter. We ice-skate economy style.
Whatcha talking about? Winter has never phased a Chicagoian or the lesser Suburbanites. I drive in the winter, erry day.
What a coincidence! I'll be in and near Chicago during Christmas and new years, but so far I'm uncertain if I may be able to attend. I'd also love to go to Brookfield Zoo. No promises just yet on my end, I'll see what I can do for now.
I'm honestly more concerned about the mexicans selling Cotton Candy on those giant sticks in the fucking winter weather.
It's not that bad, Jord. Where do you live and how far away of a drive/train ride are you from Chicago?
3-4 hour drive. Waukesha WI so yes it is quite a bit for just going to a zoo.
If you're planning on doing this some time later in December (probably mid december, maybe a few days before christmas), I can arrange a lift from the Crystal Lake area down to the zoo. This will be quicker, and cheaper if you pay a part of the trip. My car can easily sit 6-8 people, Gotta love highway yachts.
