For any of you that don't already know about this (yeah there's the news section thread, but we need a more informative one in GD imo), here's the idea:

Since 2005 now, the Christmas chart-topper has been the single release of the X Factor winner. Again this year, the X Factor winner Joe McElderry is slated to be at the top of the Christmas charts. Another year where real music is shunned in favour of corporate recycled crap.
We're not letting this happen.
A while ago, a Facebook group popped up, urging every one of its members to buy the song 'Killing in the Name' by RATM in the lead up to Christmas, in the hope that the relentless X-factor onslaught could be repelled. Sound like a stupid, cynical idea? That's what Simon Cowell thought :

Yeah, that's right, Simon fucking Cowell himself may have sown the seeds of rebellion purely by making this dumb comment. He also seems to think the facebook group is a personal attack on him, which it wasn't (but hey, it sure seems to be after you said that, Simon!)
Well, I initially thought nothing of this. "Hey, maybe it will be cool if it happens, but I'm not holding my breath." However, I later decided to buy 'Killing in the Name' on iTunes, and it turns out it's a pretty goddamn inspiring song.
And it just reached the top of the UK charts. Wait, what? Seriously.

Yeah. FUCKING SERIOUSLY. THE TOP OF THE GODDAMN UK CHARTS.
Wow. I mean, holy fuck. That's like, internet backlash to the extreme. Who would have thought a bunch of people on Facebook could accomplish such a feat?
I'll do anything for Simon Cowell.

But I have no money :kiddo:
I never expected it to go this far.
Me neither. It's pretty fucking incredible, to be honest. All we need to do is keep the heat on!
I never expected it to go this far.
It's about time it did, X Factors been claiming No.1 at christmas ever since it was first aired just cos of dumbasses whoring out to reality shows.
This better fucking happen, tired of the xfactor number ones.

I hope you have a fucking awesome christmas.
Are RATM still broken up?
This certainly is a Rage against the Machine that is X factor.
If rock is the seed of love, rock on.

You too.
Are RATM still broken up?
Don't buy more than 2, if you read the facebook group you'll see that by doing so and if others do it too, it could get disqualified.

Ah, that I didn't see. Ty for heads up, 2 it is.
Another year where real music is shunned in favour of corporate recycled crap.
Mm hmm.
It's really about time that all this X Factor shit stopped topping everything.
Just bought mine :)
I fucking hate rage against the machine.
Mm hmm.
I've seen your posts and I figured you're unbelievably cynical about absolutely everything possible, so I'll take this comment with a pinch of salt

Right answer.

Seems like you're mad just beacuse I post my opinion about how I think this is completely tripe and a general waste of time, I want a christmas number one to make me feel christmassy.
Crappy recycled music in a crappy recycled tv-show? Get out of here!
Seems like you're mad just beacuse I post my opinion about how I think this is completely tripe and a general waste of time, I want a christmas number one to make me feel christmassy.
I'll counter your unwarranted pessimism with my own brand of concentrated cynicism :
I honestly can't remember the last time a christmas number one made me feel christmassy.
And how the fuck is a song by Miley Cyrus called "The Climb" going to make you feel any more 'christmassy' than RATM?
This is perhaps and odd question but if I buy the whole album on iTunes, (rage against the machine) will it still count towards to the singles chart? Or does buying it as an album mean it only counts towards the album charts?
RATM, aren't really my kind of music but if it'll stop "The Climb" reaching #1 then FUCK YEAH

Got the album but i'll buy the single anyway...
