Constant Internet dropout, not sure what the problem is

So, as the title says, my Internet has been dropping recently. The connection is really nice and high speed, but like every hour it wi drop out ~3-4 times for a short period, and daily for about 15 mins. This is very frustrating when playing games, as it appears to only be input lag, as I can see what is happening in the game/hear mics, but I can't move or do anything/ this happened after my retarded parents replaced our incredibly nice new router with a mac airport extreme because my dads computer could not connect to it (we later found out that his computer had a virus, but he denied it because macs don't get viruses )
Now, I'm not sure if it's the router or our ISP (road runner) but the Internet dies for all devices exept the Mac computers in the house, what should I do to convince my parents to do to fix the problem?
Bump
If it started happening after you got a new router, it's highly probable that it's the router that's causing the problem.
What should I say to them to convince them that?
Do you have a lot of routers listed when you scan? They might be all using the same channel, which can cause interference. Changing the channel should be very easy do to.
How would we do that? I know once a "profeshnul" apple guy game in and "fixed it" but the problems became 2x worse.
Download Airport Utility and look around.

I know Android phones have an app that you can scan the local area and it will detail information about every access point it can find (channel, MAC address, signal strength, etc.). Might be something similar for iOS. Depending on what application you use to scan for access points on your PC, it might be able to tell you about the access points as well.
