• DVI-D compatible with DVI-I?
    2 replies, posted
So my friend is buying a new monitor for his computer, and the he wants a cheaper monitor. One for under £100 and still a good size. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any that would fit the bill with HDMI input, so it was either VGA or DVI. And after reading that DVI was better than VGA, that was the obvious option. Right, time for the dilemma. His video card, an ASUS HD Radeon 6770, only has a DVI-I output, but the majority of monitors only have DVI-D inputs. If we were to buy a DVI-D cable (as in with DVI-D on both ends), would it still work? I've heard that the extra pins on the DVI-I are only for analogue inputs, and so digital would still work fine? Please help
DVI-D will work on a DVI-I port. It just wont have the analogue output.
Thank you!
