Clooney, his father, Nick and others, including Democratic US Representative. Jim Moran of Virginia and civil rights leader Ben Jealous, were arrested after being warned three times not to cross a police line outside the embassy. They were handcuffed and placed into a U.S. Secret Service van. Clooney said earlier that he hopes to draw more attention to the issue and that if action is not taken in the next three to four months "we're going to have a real humanitarian disaster." He made a quiet visit to the volatile border region between Sudan and South Sudan last week ahead of testimony he gave before a US Senate committe on Wednesday. Clooney saw burned-out villages and met with residents forced to seek shelter in caves because of aerial attacks by Sudan's military. "It is a campaign of murder and fear and displacement and starvation," Clooney, a longtime activist on the Sudan issue, told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He called Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir as well as two other Sudanese officials "war criminals." The three have already been indicted by the International Criminal Court as part of an investigation into atrocities in Darfur from August 2003 to March 2004. "Let's use the techniques we've learned from chasing terrorists and find and freeze the offshore bank accounts of these war criminals. They are not buying these weapons with Sudanese pounds. Let's work with the international community to toughen the sanctions, make Khartoum a very lonely place," he said. Violence has flared along the Sudan-South Sudan border since South Sudan seceded last year, and some experts worry the conflict could grow. The two sides remain locked in disputes over issues including the position of their border, control of the disputed Abyei territory, and what transit fees South Sudan pays its northern neighbor to export oil from Port Sudan. Tensions have been further exacerbated since South Sudan shut down all its oil fields in January in protest of Khartoum's seizure of crude it said was to make up for unpaid fees.[/release] http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/9148839/George-Clooney-arrested.html
I like Clooney, he seems to be one of the few high profile people putting his position to good use. [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] And not in the Bono LOOK HOW NICE I AM way.

oh nooooo not George I like George Clooney. He seems like a legitimately awesome guy. This is dildos.
I sure hope they had a Nespresso machine in that van
He didn't do anything wrong, the police just really wanted his autograph.
Sudanly, police!
This was good of him simply because of the amount of attention it'll draw to the situation because of how high-profile an individual he is. And on that note, he'll have nary done to him about this because he's so high profile.
I want his hair.
George Clooney did more then what most celebrities do when they hear about some crisis like this, typically the hollywood norm is to send money and have some crap advert about sending help. Instead this man went there, reported to the US SENATE, and then proceeded to show his point by doing this knowing full well of the consequences and the attention it could bring to his cause. Well done sir. Well done.
That's awesome. I want to see him do it everywhere. (Palestine, Syria etc.)
and then he's tortured to death
I heard a quote somewhere, that George Clooney's accountant called him up one day, and said "George, I've done the numbers. . .you officially never have to work again. Ever." Since then, Clooney's focused himself entirely on doing only the kinds of movies HE wants to make, and immersing himself into whatever cause he feels passionately about. People, Clooney IS the Dos Equis guy.
I want his hair.
I want him.
Someone once said "It ain't gay if it's Bruce Campbell." I'd like to extend that to include Clooney.

[editline]17th March 2012[/editline] And not in the Bono LOOK HOW NICE I AM way.
What the fuck is wrong with Bono? There's at least 5 million people in Africa alive today thanks to his activism and many charities. (i.e. one campaign/red product) I'd like to see you do that from your armchair.
and then he's tortured to death
He was put in a US Secret Service van. The US arrested him. That would indicate significantly better jail conditions.
Because Bono, on top of him helping out people also likes to publicly announce "What a great guy he is"
find me one interview where he says how great he thinks he is, because I know of one that clearly displays the opposite. And wait! There's more! It's George Clooney himself who asked him.
