I am not surprised over this.
Actually, I am pretty sure it's common knowlage that workers are abused in countries like China, India and similar countries.

this applies to many, MANY Chinese factories

If somebody wants a job, and is below the legal age, but still applies then obviously they want the job, and while it was a bad idea on Apple's part, I wouldn't really call it abuse.

you'd think a huge corporation like apple wouldn't have to hire people below legal age
or have people at least check ids of new hired people
It just works ('it' being the workers, regardless of age or health status).
I did a research paper on overseas labor last year, and Apple is one of the worst companies labor wise.
Dell is one of the best.
