This is my current system. Ol' compy has served me faithfully for years, but with BF3 on the way and a slew of new games that will push graphics farther than ever before, I think it might be time to move on. What I'm currently looking at is this:
GTX 570
Motherboard (might change when Newegg adds more sandy bridge mobos)
OC-able i5
4GB RAM
850W PSU (Modular)

1TB HDD
Blu-Ray Drive
ub3r 1337 glowy fan and
a nice box to drop it all in.
This is pretty much what I had laid out in my "Hypothetical Build" thread, but this is the final of what I'd go with, and the total is $1,439.
My birthday is coming up at the end of April. Is it time to upgrade, or should I ask for different presents for now? :v:
-Make sure you get a 64 bit OS
-I'd say get the 922 instead, since the 932 stopped being on sale
-You can spend less on the PSU - that stopped being on sale too
-For the motherboard, I suggest you get the MSI GD55 once they come back in stock
get some combo deals in there, like these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.612843 (CPU/PSU)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.590981 (Case/OS)
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
oh also by end of April I'm guessing prices and deals are going to change
Okay. I'll keep my eyes peeled, and thanks for the OS advice, but I thought 64 bit OSs were a lot buggier than 32. Is that not true?
nothing wrong with 64 bit, if I remember correctly it was 64bit XP that was buggy
ever since that 64 bit has been fine
Great, so I can take advantage of 32gigs of ram, right!? :v:

There wasn't anything wrong with 64-bit XP, just a lack of drivers and support from manufacturers.
Not really. I can play Crysis 2 fine with a GTX 260 core 216 at max (on the MP demo, which doesn't have real max) at 50-60fps 1600 x 900

Well, you'll need 64-bit to take advantage of any more than ~3gb of RAM, considering you have chosen a GPU with over 1gb of ram.

Funny, when I tried the demo my PC begged for mercy. Is it my CPU?

My CPU is an AMD Phenom II 965 X4 @ 3.6ghz stock cooling. I don't see how your quad could be that much slower, aside from it's 1.2ghz lower frequency, as I think Crysis 2 is more GPU intensive. Although, my GPU is a slightly better version.
CPUs don't work like that

192GB of RAM seems to be the cap for Windows 7 64-bit but only if you have Professional edition or higher.

I was just stating a fact.
all they're saying is that there shouldn't be any direct GHz comparisons between processors with completely different architectures
also I'm pretty sure a 965 is much better than a q6600

Well, they could at least be seem a little less hostile and explain why, like how you explained a little bit more rather than, "Don't compare them."

But motherboard limits are much smaller, the limit for 64 bit but itself is insane.

A 965 is a good amount better.
My computer is (generally) worse than that and I can play alot of games on med/high.
