The Senate is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a procedural motion on a defense bill. If approved, the measure would repeal the 1993 law that prevents openly gay men and women from serving in the military. But it appears that Democrats will be unable to convince any Republicans to vote to proceed, meaning action on the bill can't be completed. Under rules of the Senate, it would take at least 60 "yes" votes to move the measure forward. There are 59 senators in the Democratic caucus. Supporters are confident that anti-gay military policies are destined to be overturned, in time. "A policy that is opposed by the overwhelming majority of the American public is something that ultimately is going to be repealed," says David Stacy, deputy legislative director for Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights organization. However, Gen. James Amos, Obama's nominee to lead the Marine Corps, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday that lifting the ban on gay service members would weaken morale. Polls conducted over the past couple of years have indicated that nearly 60 percent of Americans favor the law's repeal. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, complained on the Senate floor Monday that no vote on DADT should be held prior to the Pentagon's review. Democrats, he said, were rushing matters to their favored conclusion.
Cut for readability. But, they get more soldiers to throw into Afghanistan get killed, its all good right?

This is why I hate politicians sometimes. They value making cheap cracks at the other party over actually helping the country.
I think American needs to move back to traditional values. The nation must enforce these timeless values over the mindless propaganda of modern media, such as violent and promiscous television and videogames. And a central part of this moral revival is the morale of our armed forces, the pride and honour of our country. They are called men for a reason.
:what:
If most of them are homophobes then yeah, it probably would weaken morale.
I think it should be done away with as long as it doesn't interfere with their job. I think that all combat jobs should be closed to homosexuals for the same reason women aren't allowed in them. Which would mainly be due to instinctual and emotional behavior. Otherwise I don't understand why homosexuals have to be openly gay when all they have to do is shut their mouths. If you are gay, you shouldn't join the military in the first place.
implying gay people are more effeminate and less manly than a straight guy.
the difference between a gay man and a straight man is in their thoughts and brain structure, not necessarily their overt actions. for all you know the perfectly sensible gentlemen that lives next to you may be gay.
Let them join. More meatshields for us straight folks.
oh, I think the straight guys would be the meatshield for the gay people, giggity, but seriously, DADT is retarded. Maybe it makes them better, The reason women aren't allowed on the field is because of bigotry and because they are physically different, gay men aren't.
implying gay people are more effeminate and less manly than a straight guy.
Lets use a bit of algebra here. If A=b and b=c then a=c A Represents Woman, B Represents man, C represents gay man. So, Gay man = Woman. Fuck gay people. Their dicks go limp to hot girls. Lets face it.. Most of Facepunch are a bunch of liberal assfaces. You want gay people? You can have em', in your shitty Europe. Bull shit 60 percent.. wheres the source on that

[editline]03:40PM[/editline] Unless you are saying that men are equal to women, so fuck men, your way of coming out?
implying gay people are more effeminate and less manly than a straight guy.
Herp derp I never said or implied they were more effeminate. You are looking at it from the wrong angle. There aren't women on the battlefield because it has been shown that the men would try to protect the female which could cause problems, and if a female were to die then the men would become extremely demoralized. Look at it with a homosexual point of view. It would be the same thing except switched and with a gay man. Then comes the issue of showers and stuff like that. You don't see men showering with the women do you? A bunch of straight soldiers are not going to knowingly shower with gays.
I do think all women and homosexuals shouldn't join the army because only men can cohesively and accurately do high performance high stress tasks such as deicison making and combat.
Because gays aren't men...
I don't care either way. People have and should be allowed to have rights, even if I morally disagree with it, because it's none of my business what they do. Then again, this policy isn't much of a big deal. You can't broadcast that you're gay in the army. Who cares? You're in a war, the goal is to kill the enemy, not flaunt your viewpoints.
It's not just a matter of them kicking out people who flaunt their opinions however. It's if someone discovers that they are gay they get kicked out. That shouldn't happen.
Exactly... sometimes homosexual people have too much pride. If you don't want to be discriminated against then just shut up and do your job. IMO gays have no place in the military. Just like blind, deaf, fat, old, and disabled people have no place there. If you aren't able to do the job by their standards, they have a right to deny you. Government jobs are no different than civilian jobs. If you cuss out your boss you will probably get fired even if everyone has freedom of speech. You have the right to be gay, but if that aspect effects your job then your boss has every right to fire you. Gays rate dumb..thanks
I find it hilarious how something as minor as a persons sexual orientation is being made of such a big deal. I doubt that having an openly gay person in the military is going to make that big of a difference. Not all gay people will get in your face about the fact that they're gay and straight people do it about as much if not more then gay people. I doubt that anyone would make their sexual orientation every aspect of their job and if they do they deserve a different career. Gay people are normal people too, they just fuck a person of the same sex.

If the army finds out you're gay/lesbian you will be kicked out, regardless of how they find out.
Thanks Obama, you're a big flipping help.
You can't blame a man for another mans opinion. Freedom of Thought and Opinion man. Anywho, they need to pass the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, it's unconstitutional in my opinion.

Just look at this And this In the second link, an officer who was one of the most important people in the entire air force got kicked out because someone read his email without his consent. I see something wrong with this, anyone else?
Gay people are not normal people..they are an oddity of nature. Humans are animals, and it is in their very nature to want to reproduce with the opposite sex. We know very little about homosexuality, and some say it's a choice while others say it is hardwired. If it's hardwired then it's a mutation.
