So the bastards at Syfy (I fucking hate the new name it should stay at Sci Fi) and MGM decided to cancel SGU. No word on if the season will finish out the series plot but they already have the last episodes filmed so probably not. It's these dime a dozen shows that kill SGU. It was bad that SGU was moved to Tuesday but then Gleefuckers and Americas got talent come along and where does the viewer base turn? I don't know why people can't figure out a good from bad show anymore. A reality tv show like DANCING WITH THE SARAH PALINS is better. sighs
Why not continue the series and post them online, at least no one would cares so much the ratings
Oh fuck, just when it was getting a bit more interesting.
Damn, I was just finishing Atlantis. I thought I was going to be able to go on and finally be caught up with the rest of the world.
I still miss SG-1 dearly though, even though that was a long time ago.
k go back to atlantis please
finish the fucking story
I didn't think SGU was that bad, but it could of been better, atleast I still got Doctor Who.

There's an Atlantis movie in the works.
Dammit. I really liked where it was going.
Damn, I really was loving it well.
Stargate Universe was shit, I'm not bothered by this.
Bring back SG-1.

Epic fail on your side!
Sure SG-1 "was" better than SGU, but i think going on for more than 10 seasons would have been just too much for a franchise like this...no offense.
Besides,...the Ori are no more, the Replicators f*** up, etc., so what else could you write the story about?
What i don't understand is, why so many people seem to "not like" this show.
Seriously...give me a few good and i really mean "good" reasons, besides the usual "it's like BSG" or "Lost" shit one hears around the net.
These aren't reasons, these are just mere tries by some so called "fans", to repel something they're afraid of.
SGU brought some fresh air into the ageing topic of
"traveling amongst the stars, with an ancient device called the stargate".
I don't want to denie, that the big soap/ love factor in seasons 1 got a bit annoying, as i was rolling my eyes a few times aswell in the episodes like:
"Ah crap...now kiss, move on and blow something up for god sake",
but hey, it really got better after the middle of season 1 in my opinion.
Sure, there's still the "Cloe/Matt thing" going on, but that doesn't bother me at all. =D
Hey...i keep watching the episode and wait with "patience" (what most of you obviously don't have) till it's over, no matter what. ^^
Comeing back to the topic of "fresh air"...it should be clear, that a franchise which exists since the 90's, can't just blatantly go on and on with the same things over and over again.
Again, SG-1 was brilliant, SGA was good spin-off aswell no question...but denieing a 2nd. spin-off just because it's not like the others, is just stupid, childish and shows the inability to cope with innovations....which by summing it all up...would make a true "fan".
Besides, even in real life, true fans of e.g. a soccer team stick together with them even in bad times, if they're not playing well. ^^
So with that...i should probably end my comment.
Hope you won't just go ahead trying so "smash" my arguments without giving it atleast some thought.
(Critiques to this are of course appreciated ^^)

Thats fine, the only good thing about that show was Robert Carlyle.

I met and spoke to Joe Flannigan who says it's permanently on hold

I like it, but it's void of originality and gets boring way too quickly. Awful pacing, confusing direction and terrible plot lines. Every episode ends with a feeling of "Well nothing of value just happened"
The acting brings it up a bit but somebody always brings it straight back down.
If it's permamently on hold, Doesen't that make it canceled?
What ruined SGU for me was the absense of the standard team makeup.
The SG1 team (atleast until season 8) had a science-geek with solid humor (Captain/Major Carter), a funny team-leader with a joke under his sleeve at all times (Colonel O'Neil), a dead-serious kill-all-ask-later guy (Teal'c) and of course our beloved Dr. Jackson, with his constant babbling about archeological matters.
In SGA, the team setup made a return (Season 2 and later), with good ol' Meredith Rodney McKay's constant whining and brilliant McGuyverisms, Colonel Shepard's similarity to O'Neil, Teyla's knowledge about the Pegasus galaxy, and Ronon's kill-all attitude.
In SGU, all we have is soldiers acting like adolescents, civilians trying to take over a ship controlled by the military (don't get it wrong, it was a nice episode, but unrealistic), and a lack of organisation (granted, SGA had that for some of the first season, but they still kept their cool and managed to operate properly).

Read the thread headline!!
The first lot of star gate universe episodes were major soap opera at most, but then it got better. Seeing as it's on hold. We wait and see until it comes back on. See how the ratings go from there, that's the whole point of the cancellation, and see how the episodes do. They'll fasten up the Chloe story, so it won't be such a bother, everyone hates chloe. lol.
Good riddance. Let it die. When they're not actively making money off the series maybe MGM will be softer on the license.
Stargate 2 go!
Go to hell SyFy or whatever you are.
Heh, the main mission was to find a source, they ended finding it, but got attacked, and ends in a cliffhanger.
It wasn't that bad, will be disapointed if we don't get to see how the last episode ends.
It was started to get good, but it was completely differant from SG1/Atlantis...mainly because they hardly used the stargate.
They finally did after season 1 as much. It was nearly a stargate show, but half soap.
I was never really a big fan of SGU. I watched the first episode and thought "meh", it didn't really interest me. Stargate Atlantis was good and I will watch it on TV if its on, but SG-1 was my favorite.

Other than what you said about SG-1 shouldn't come back, I disagree with everything.
You can't just ignore "It's like BSG" (I've honestly never heard it being compared to Lost though, but I guess I can vaguely see where they're coming from). What made me like Stargate so much was the adventure, exploration and lore. I've only watched season 1 of SGU (and so if most of my points are made null my season 2, I apologise) but there is far too much drama for my liking. And I'm not just saying that because I'm "afraid" of it. If I wanted a show with lots of drama in it, Stargate is not a series I'd look to at first. I know they can't continue with the same formula that SG-1 and Atlantis used for so many years, but to be totally honest I think they should have just finished Stargate after that.
As for bringing fresh air "traveling amongst the stars, with an ancient device called the stargate", I agree that it was getting very stale towards the ends of the other two series, what with it becoming less about the travelling. The thing is there, I did not get the sense of travelling. Afaik they have no choice in where they go. Maybe I'm blurring the difference between "travelling" and "exploring" a bit here but what I want from Stargate is exploration. In fact the lack of exploration in the later seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis is what made me dislike them a bit too. And in fact in completely different series like Star Trek Voyager (but I won't get into that :v:).
You say it got better after the first half of season 1? Does it continue to improve in season 2? Because my favourite couple of episodes are in the first half of season 1. So anyway is season 2 worth watching?
What I also don't like is just generally the storylines are often slow, and it doesn't feel like much happened. Maybe they were going for character development but I prefer it when the episodes aren't entirely focused on that. It's a good way to turn me off a character that I would otherwise like.
I'm not too fond of the way you act as if people who don't like SGU aren't "fans" of Stargate. By that logic would you say that people who don't like individual episodes aren't fans?

Season 2 does (sort of) change the "no choice in where they go" thing, if that helps any.

Shame.
But look on the bright side, at least we get more wrestling and B- SyFy originals with 5 minutes of recycled stock footage! :downs:
