• Endorphin(Dynamic Motion Synthesis) Megathread - Pretty much the funnest physics simulator

Endorphin is a simulation program by naturalmotion(the creator of the ragdoll engine for gta 4). The idea of the simulator is to create your own scenarios by creating props, different character types, You can even simulate car crashes (shown in this video) the simulator can be used for a wide variety of commercials, games, or just for fun. Here are a few that I made(also using sony vegas for blood effects) Heres the summary made by NaturalMotion Endorphin is NaturalMotion’s animation tool for creating virtual stuntmen for movies and films. Using Adaptive Behaviours instead of canned animations, Endorphin’s 3D characters essentially animate themselves. Move two Football players close to each other and one will automatically tackle the other one, realistically trying to grab hold of his legs and bringing him down . Or not. It really is up to you. Endorphin allows animators to direct scenes in real-time in a way they have never been able to do before. You can change parameters or change behaviours and see the results instantly on the screen in front of you. When you're done, export animation data in one of the many formats, ready for use in your game or VFX shot. Here is an actual commercial which used Endorphin - [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] You can download the free version from here: http://community.naturalmotion.com/ (it's just as good as the full version, trust me.) the last thread was in 2007 :smith:
I tried using this as a kid I failed miserably
i remember this used to be the shit when i was younger
I tried using this as a kid I failed miserably
same :smith:
I REMEMBER THIS! I made whole scenes. It was amazing.
Euphoria and ragdolls are different things. Euphoria is an AI engine.
It has a bit of a learning curve. Back in 2006/7, whenever the last thread was, I was in the zone. I was making gifs and shit and long animation strings with complicated backgrounds. It was rad. Does anybody know how to merge it with Valve models? I've seen the TF2 pyro use endorphin stuff and was wondering how the fuck.
Euphoria and ragdolls are different things. Euphoria is an AI engine.
Uhh, no it's not. It's an animation engine. Anyway, I remember using this ages ago. I had made some pretty sweet things.

I remember this, back when GTA4 was still in development, this was what we used to get a taste of GTA4's physics system.
Euphoria and ragdolls are different things. Euphoria is an AI engine.
More like an reflex engine, but yeah. I've lost count of the times I've seen "Euphoria is a physics engine" or "GTA IV runs in the Euphoria engine". Makes me want to suffocate goats. [editline]asd[/editline]
:downs: http://naturalmotion.com/euphoria
He's essentially right. It generates animation that gives the illusion that the character is reacting to its environment. Any middleware that makes something in the game move could be called an animation engine.
Uhh, no it's not. It's an animation engine. Anyway, I remember using this ages ago. I had made some pretty sweet things.
An animation engine would be much harder to pull off, it would make much more sense to have an AI predict movements.

This looks really fun. I'll give it a go, I'll probably be shit at using it.
I remember first seeing this in that indiana jones game trailer. and that star wars tech demo
I've never got around to use Endorphin. I just like watching what people can do with this program.
I used to play around with the tech demo alot in the old days.
I saw it say specifically in a Euphoria showcase by on the NaturalMotion website that it's an AI engine... Unless they're lying :O
Technically that's correct, however it doesn't handle pathfinding. AI in the traditional sense (in the field of games at least) deals only with a character in the abstract sense, a blob in the air, sometimes with a gun, telling it where to go or point. Euphoria kicks in during ragdoll-mode, contracting individual muscles, creating animation. The SDK includes preset 'behaviours', but what it's used for is up to the developer. In GTA IV, it generates the stumbling/flailing animations, and that's pretty much it. In Star Wars FU it kicks in when stormtroopers are held near others, and they grab onto each other. The flailing animation and possibly the physical constraint was handled by euphoria. It really hasn't been used that effectively so far. [editline]asd[/editline] This is probably the best demonstration of its potential:
Oh man, this was great. I remember getting kind of all right with it a few years ago when that other thread was popular. Then I saw what everyone else was doing and realised that in comparison I was shit. Still absolutely amazing fun though. Importantly too:
I remember first seeing this in that indiana jones game trailer.
Whoah! Totally forgot about that! What ever happened to it?
I hate when people upload videos of Endorphin rather than importing it into 3ds Max or something like you're supposed to Endorphin is NOT an animation program.
Exporting the data into Source and rigging it to characters is pretty fun. Can't do that with the Learning Edition though.
Back In 09, I've got a shitload of better ones to upload soon. (Yes my Musical taste has improved since) Didn't Ironman17 become a mod on their forums?
I use Maya 7 for that kind of stuff. Of course you could use 3ds max or some other animator.
I was using 3DS Max, but I couldn't import Valve skeletons into it. Even with the full licensed version.
The Star Wars demos they did with it made it look a lot more amazing than it actually was. They could have done so much more with it other than windows and doors, and wooden huts on one fucking level.

How much does it cost to get the licensing and software to use it in a game?
More than you can afford.
never found out how to use this
The crashes seem a bit.. overdone/overreacted. Other then that, seems pretty cool.
