Hello,
I've recently picked up a new notebook which has uses nvidia optimus technology. For the most part it works fine, with the exception of OB based source games.
These don't allow me to set shadows to high, even though the nvidia GPU should have absolutely no issue supporting it. Console commands that enable the features of it fail as well.
I suspect this is because OB based games make a list of allowed and supported features based on the intel GPU (which cannot be disabled).
Is there some way to essentially lie to the system and the game about the GPU in order to unlock all the features?
You can use a tool called "3D Analyze" to do this. I'm not sure what the latest version is, but you can find version 2.36b here.
Load steam.exe up with it, and configure the VendorID and DeviceID fields. I'm not sure of the exact values for your case, but if you change those then steam will think you're using a different graphics card. This can also be used to get free stuff, like the "Free DIRT promo for ATI card owners!" or whatever they have, if you're unscrupulous.
Google around for the required IDs and this should be exactly what you're looking for, though. There's some info on a thread from another forum here.
Much thanks :)
With hope it will work.
