This is the first research agreement of its kind for the state of Maryland that benefits both Morgan State students and the Army.
From here forward Morgan State will directly be supporting the United States Army.
"It provides for us a great opportunity to partner on more research and the development of that research consistent with the Army's needs," said Earl S. Richardson, Morgan State University president.
Morgan State and the Army's Research Development and Engineering Command signed Maryland's first research agreement with a public college or university.
This partnership will share Morgan State's research capabilities with Aberdeen Proving Ground's engineering systems.
Both parties say this agreement is mutually beneficial.
"We provide for them trained manpower in the areas of mathematics, science and engineering. We have a major core of disciplines here that has done extremely well in graduating students," said Richardson.
After graduating, the Army will offer the students careers to help support national defense.
"Offering opportunities for them to work with us at the student level, so these young kids have the opportunity to see what is available in government for future employment," said Maj. Gen. Nick Justice, U.S. Army.
Morgan State University has had a long-standing relationship with the U.S. Army. In the Army's history, it has had five, four-star African-American generals. Two of them have come from Morgan State.
The Army signed a similar partnership with the University of Delaware in January.

Something tells me that a military draft is soon to come. When the military needs to have a presence in colleges to get people, something's wrong. Anyone else feel a draft coming?

Why not? You're one case. We're spread WAY too thin. Asia, Europe, South Pacific, Middle East, etc. And NK just sunk a S. Korean ship, I'd bet money that eventually a new war will break out over there.
When they mean "careers to help support national defense", it's most likely jobs in defense contractors like General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin or Boeing Defense Systems.

Maybe, or they just want you to join the military and go shoot the Taliban.

I'm very glad we have an expert on the US Military such as yourself in this thread.
Maybe, or they just want you to join the military and go shoot the Taliban.
What? You think Army wants to have skilled engineers as infantrymen?
Maybe, or they just want you to join the military and go shoot the Taliban.
Yes they need mathematicians and physicists to shoot some Iraqis.

You're an idiot. There are hundreds of colleges that "partner" with the U.S. Military already. Ever hear of ROTC?
There's no need for a draft, the majority of our Military is idle.
Maybe, or they just want you to join the military and go shoot the Taliban.
Or maybe you're just a paranoid wacko. The government learned what happens when you draft people into an unpopular war with Vietnam. They wont make that mistake again.

Wow, sorry I'm not up on my military partnerships, and if you actually look up info on the draft, and George W. Bush, he was about to re-enstate it at the beginning of the current war.
FYI, I'm 23, so I'm on the latter part of the draft list. I'm not a 'paranoid wacko.'

Even in the impossible case of a draft, they wouldn't be send out smart kids to get filled with 7.62mm holes.

They pick people 19-21 not in college first, typically.

It's called recruiting, we have so many infantry people that they need more people with "smarts" too do more specialized jobs. Hell, for example the navy will pay for all your college, pay you monthly while you're going as long as you go in to a nuclear engineering degree and sign 4 years of active duty time to work on nuclear subs/ships. Its a great thing to be honest.
Don't be paranoid, every branch does shit like this. They recruit at high schools, job fairs, colleges, university, everywhere. No one is forcing you to talk to them or join. They're simply there for the people that are interested. Military isn't a bad gig specially if you know what you want to do. It provides an incredible amount of schooling for someone at no cost, you get nice bonuses and good pay depending on what you go in as. Military isn't a bad place, specially if you're like me and have been around it for 18 years. I've met some of the coolest people in this world who where in the military. People are just joining the "lol military is evil and want to kill everything" bandwagon. Plus it gives people good self confidence and discipline, which currently most work areas lack.
Also no there is not going to be a draft, you're being stupid. If it makes any difference I have a "Selective service card" as well. If there was a draft i would be going in, which i have no problem with to be honest. Hell if it happened i would prolly end up just enlisting so I get better pay and benefits and get treated better overall. If anything prevented me from doing so i could pull a few strings from some higher-ups I know =)

They wouldn't send out research scientists, mathematicians and physicists.
They wouldn't send out research scientists, mathematicians and physicists.
Sure they would, military has specialized jobs. Not all are front line, but still.
The Finnish have to do it. The Swedish have to do it. The Germans have to do it. The Singaporeans have to do it. Hell, even the Swiss have conscripts. Why can't you even tolerate the very, very remote chance of a draft?
Sure they would, military has specialized jobs. Not all are front line, but still.
The vast, vast majority of jobs in a modern army are not front line. Using the British Army as an example, it has 300,000 "soldiers", but less than 20,000 of those are the guys who go to the front line to do the actual fighting and dying.

The army is overflowing. We won't ever need a fucking draft, especially with the amount of kids growing up now who think CoD games are realistic war games.

I lol'd.
Wow, sorry I'm not up on my military partnerships,
Wow, then you shouldn't be making assumptions about an "incoming draft" :downs:
hurf durf lets pay to train people in sciences then get em shot!
Seriously what were you thinking?

You're an idiot. Every branch is meeting or exceeding their quota and they have been for a while. It would make no sense to have a draft now.

Those are pretty good jobs to have. Engineers for those companies make a nice amount.
Please, oh please, don't bring back the draft.
Maybe, or they just want you to join the military and go shoot the Taliban.
Yeah because the US Army wants to recruit Scientists for Infantry, totally not for Research.
obviously they specialize in some kind of thing that benefits the army
maybe DARPAs recruiting.

Majority of them don't even know how to hold a real weapon, let alone adjust sights, reload quickly, how to insert a bullet into a magazine.
I've always wanted to enlist in the Army, since I was 5-7, and become a paratrooper.

The Military, not just the Army, always changes. No one will perfectly know how they work.
