HDD slow data transfer and cut outs after change to AHCI

I have recently installed a SSD as my system disk and installed in AHCI emulation mode, i also have two other hard disks, one functions without error but the other which is a : MaXTOR STM3500320AS ATA DEVICE
Shows it volumes but once data has begun transfer it starts with a ok rate of around 600kbps shit but i could handle that but then drops down in speed and eventually the drive dissapears in windows, it also isnt recognised in the bios once in AHCI mode.
Any idea's or suggestions as have a lot of data on this drive and no spare drives at the moment.
Either the drive isn't designed to operate in AHCI mode, or the drive is failing. If your SSD can operate without being in AHCI mode, you should try that to see if it fixes the issue. If not, I suggest buying a more modern hard drive and copying the contents of the buggy drive over to the new one before enabling AHCI mode again.
