• Jeb Bush says the term "anchor babies" is mostly applied to Asians, Trump mocks him and calls it off
(CNN)Donald Trump mocked Jeb Bush on Twitter on Tuesday morning after the former Florida governor dug himself into a deeper hole explaining his "anchor babies" comment. "In a clumsy move to get out of his 'anchor babies' dilemma, where he signed that he would not use the term and now uses it, he blamed ASIANS," Trump wrote. "Asians are very offended that JEB said that anchor babies applies to them as a way to be more politically correct to hispanics. A mess!" Trump then wrote, a few minutes later. On Monday, Bush found himself in a new mess when, while trying to clean-up controversy over his use of the term "anchor babies," he said the offensive term was "frankly, more related to Asian people." Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii called on the Republican presidential candidate to "immediately retract his statements and apologize to the Asian community for his insensitive behavior." Bush's comments "regarding the children of Asian immigrants are derogatory and offensive," Schatz said in a statement. It all started when the former Florida governor visited McAllen, Texas, located near the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday and defended his use of the term "anchor baby" to describe the children born on U.S. soil to parents who came into the country illegally. The phrase is considered offensive by many Latinos.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/24/politics/jeb-bush-asian-people-anchor-babies/?iid=ob_article_topstories_pool&iref=obinsite
Yes, trump would never offend a entire race about immigriation.
How could anyone defend that fucking term? I didn't expect Jeb to fuck up politically this early.
Cool so the republicans lost the latino, and asian vote
How could anyone defend that fucking term? I didn't expect Jeb to fuck up politically this early.
I think he was attempting to retain his Latino vote which ironically is gonna cost him the Asian vote.
:snip:
Jeb was refering to Chinese Birth Tourism which is a huge problem, but I wasnt expecting hin to word it so fucking badly it's hilarious.
I don't see how saying that you observe one race to have more involvement with exploiting birth-right citizenship laws is offensive. I simply don't. Calling someone an anchor baby is offensive, sure, at a personal level, I don't see how saying that one group exploits anchor babies more than another is offensive if it's just an observation? Edit: Alright so it's because of the term itself, apparently he didn't have a good enough euphemism, thanks political correctness :^).
does that mean they were born on a pirate ship or something
Wow, what a fucking hypocrite...
For the most part, the only people who'll be honestly offended by this comment are probably going to be white people who act offended for minorities. I have yet to hear anyone I know of Asian descent being upset by this comment or really care when any other minority group is mocked. Literally, the only people I have seen getting upset about things like this are overly-preachy liberals. [editline]26th August 2015[/editline]
does that mean they were born on a pirate ship or something
An anchor baby is a child of an illegal immigrant family which abuses the United States's policy of "anyone born here is an American" and uses it so they can stay in the United States for the upbringing of their child. An issue which comes from this is that most people do not use the 18 years they have before their child reaches adulthood to go about getting a visa, and in doing so run the risk of being deported once their child hits 18. Overall, it's a moral and legal grey zone, and it's a terrible thing for people to do because it puts their child at risk of being persecuted within the country they are born and also risks the childs immediate family being deported at any given time of their life, and them being put into an orphanage or deported with them.
Cool so the republicans lost the latino, and asian vote
This asian is still voting republican. Can you really give Jeb shit for something as tiny as this, let alone the entire party?
Wow, just because the Asians you've seen haven't been offended doesn't mean that it's not offensive towards Asians. They don't represent all Asians. nah jk, asian and surrounded by asians all day erryday literally dont give a fuck lmfao 1. because its true, a lot of people from china come over to have kids. not something worth really getting all jumpy about in the end anyways, like srs 2. straight up have better things to do than get offended and outraged and strange things all day, like posting on facepunch about how not outraged i am asians in general tend to mind their own business and not give a fuck. the older generation at least. the only time i know of there ever being a major asian outrage in america is in California, over affirmative action and how that jeopardized their kids' chances of getting into top universities but a good amount of asians come to america from conditions far worse than anything in america could offer, so they find there isn't much to complain about since relatively speaking, life in america is fucking fantastic plus it's nearly an east-asian tradition to laugh and joke about shit other people would find appalling, tho of course it always depends who you talk to like, talk to people who were kids during the vietnam war and a good amount of the time they'll joke and laugh about how when the bullets started flying around, they ran out into the streets and hid behind trees to see the soldiers fight and shit, while everybody else looks at them with wide eyes going "wtf holy shit thats horrifying im so sorry for you" but srs life in america is fucking fantastic overall. south korea, taiwan, thailand, and japan fared quite well, but if you zoom back to the 70's and 80's, the rich in most parts of asia in places like vietnam lived much worse than the poor in america. also, the racism here is quite tame compared to the racism in asia so from what i've seen, so a lot of asians, while they don't like blatant racists and racism, they find it a bit harder than others to sympathize with stuff like a good amount of recent social 'movements' because the older generation especially sees them as a bunch of shits who complain about nothing and sit around being useless and unproductive, especially when protesters do something stupid like blocking off a street, which begins to affect them negatively tl;dr as long as you let asians into your top universities, all is happy
tl;dr as long as you let asians into your top universities, all is happy
I don't agree with this entire post, but I can confirm that most Asians don't care too much about politics and rarely get mad at things they hear in the news. The only time I've ever seen a large amount of Asians outraged at something was when the UC system raised tuition by like 5% (or maybe it was 10%). Our parents constantly remind us that life was extremely shitty where they came from, and that we should be lucky that we're able to receive fantastic education and be successful in our careers. Also, I agree that most Asians would laugh off any racist or other potentially offensive/triggering things you say to them. For example, my dad suffers from PTSD after immigrating to the US; he can't go on cruises or sailing or anything without freaking out. A lot of my dad's friends, who are ignorant white folk, love to joke around about his race by saying offensive things like "you must love riding on boats since your people came to America on one" and "do you want to go sailing on with my family? you must know how to steer a ship since you're asian", he just laughs it off as it's nothing, or adds his own funny comment and it ends there, rather than completely escalating it like some people in his situation would do.
The only time I've ever seen a large amount of Asians outraged at something was when the UC system raised tuition by like 5% (or maybe it was 10%).
I think that was pretty small compared to the outrage Senator Ed Hernandez got for trying to push an affirmative action bill. Plus, the tuition hike outrage was shared by everybody, not just Asians. The affirmative action incident was the only thing I've seen in US history to ever get Asians as a group to rally up and throw a shit storm. Chinese news was all over it. Many rallies were held, and many more angry letters sent. That outrage alone shot down the bill down almost immediately. Hernandez said that he was surprised and didn't expect it. Lmfao. Asian minorities tend to be well educated so it's not like they'd ever vote Republican anyway, Jeb Bush is unlikely to care
Asian minorities tend to be well educated so it's not like they'd ever vote Republican anyway, Jeb Bush is unlikely to care
Asians used to be the minority group that voted the most for republicans. But I believe that has changed considerably after HW Bush.
Asian minorities tend to be well educated
not first gen lol [editline]26th August 2015[/editline]
Our parents constantly remind us that life was extremely shitty where they came from, and that we should be lucky that we're able to receive fantastic education and be successful in our careers.
all my parents do is complain about how china is/was so much better like "dorms were FREE back when I was in college even tho we lived with like 8 people in a tiny room full of bunks also we got to eat meat like twice a month?? lol good times good times" [editline]26th August 2015[/editline] they were fairly well off compared to most so i suppose they were closer to the cpc
Asians used to be the minority group that voted the most for republicans. But I believe that has changed considerably after HW Bush.
Latinos are also very conservative but consistently vote democrat because Republicans are literally calling for their removal
Yeah, Donald "Berownlin wall" Trump clearly is in the position to call Jeb on his shit.
Latinos are also very conservative but consistently vote democrat because Republicans are literally calling for their removal
Imagine the Republican party being at minimum "neutral" on the subject of immigration. Suddenly the balance of minority votes would shift.
Cool so the republicans lost the latino, and asian vote
Did that ever have it?
Asian minorities tend to be well educated so it's not like they'd ever vote Republican anyway, Jeb Bush is unlikely to care
If they were well educated in economics then they wouldn't vote Democrat either
Well now we know that Bush won't get any votes from Asians.
Nice, looking like we won't have to worry about another bush.
Nice, looking like we won't have to worry about another bush.
except the thick one between your legs ohhhh roasted
Nice, looking like we won't have to worry about another bush.
It's hilarious to think just this one comment will single-handedly destroy Jeb's campaign for presidency. Especially with all the support Trump has with all the vulgarities spewed from his mouth.
except the thick one between your legs ohhhh roasted
damn, you got me
It's hilarious to think just this one comment will single-handedly destroy Jeb's campaign for presidency. Especially with all the support Trump has with all the vulgarities spewed from his mouth.
I'd rather neither of them become president, I just wanted to inflame bush supporters. :(
Nice, looking like we won't have to worry about another bush.
He's the best choice for a republican candidate. Who would you rather have on the republican ticket?
He's the best choice for a republican candidate. Who would you rather have on the republican ticket?
Do you want me to put out like a list? 1. A democrat 2. Anybody but bush or trump 3. If it had to be between bush and trump, trump. What's your list like? :D
