• [£1100 Ex-VAT] Moving away to go to College need a computer for gaming and laptop for work/a laptop

I'm moving away from home to go to college and I need a computer for there instead of hauling my current one back and forth. I'm thinking about building a computer for gaming and buying a cheap laptop for working at college, but I don't know if that is a good way to split my budget. If I buy a computer I'll need a keyboard, mouse and monitor, as well as a wireless card As stated in the title my budget is <£1100 but I don't have to pay VAT on any parts. Thanks for the help!
If you already had monitor etc then you could spend £800 on a PC, £300 on a netbook... But with monitor that's pushing it.
Yeah that was what made me think buying a strong laptop was the way forward, but I worry about the weight and the battery life as well as the heat Edit:

I saw this and it seems pretty powerful and fairly cheap I'll check up the prices on Aria UK [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] Seems pretty good, the 8GB X 2 were cheaper than 4GB x 2 because the 4GB were at 2100mhz not 1600mhz
I saw that reddit post too, got mad when it said get a caviar black, said "who cares about motherboards" and to get a power supply with no room to upgrade. Anyway, for £800 you want a 2500k with 570 for that money, failing that a 2500k with 560 TI/6950/6870. You also want an F3 1tb and a motherboard that supports 8x/8x crossfire/SLI down the line. Something like that if you want to spend the money (£720). If you wanted cheaper you could drop to a GPU listed above, get a P67 board, 4gb of ram and a 650w or non-modular power supply. But on that budget I wouldn't bother getting an X4 on that budget.

The guy who made that pic on Reddit is a dumbass.

And I'd recommend getting a Z68 motherboard seeing as the price difference is negligible and if you get an SSD later on you can use the caching which is always nice. Also the 2gb 6950 can make a difference in a few game and at 1080p or more.
Thanks a lot I'll keep that in mind :buddy:
