I'm going to move in with a friend and live without parents for the first time in my life, what are

I'm 21 now and haven't got to taste the freedom of an adult yet. I always preferred to stay at home to save money, have free food, free place to sleep, etc. But the whole "You're under our house and under our rules" shit is getting annoying. I'm finally deciding to get a place with a friend and his girlfriend, for 6 months this coming new year when I come home from Communist China. I want to see what it's like to live on my own before I go off to college in Hong Kong next fall and live with possibly a random Asian.
The most complicated thing I'm having right now is finding a house for rent that is under 700 a month for 2 bedrooms, or under 950 a month for 3 bedrooms (One of my other friends wants to live with us). Is there a good site to find rentals besides Craigslist? Craigslist hasn't done a whole lot of good for me.
Would using a newspaper to find rentals be my best way to search?
I really don't want to live in an apartment, I've been to some friends places who lived in an apartment and the lifestyle looks awfully shitty compared to my friends who lived in a house. One of the people that wants to get a place with me agrees, he already lived in an apartment and as soon as his lease was up he moved back with parents, he hated it and I saw why when I would visit his place.
I'm already all set for putting stuff in the apartment, I have half a house of items in a storage unit my dad said I can have since he is staying in China. Which is awesome because there is couches, beds, 50 inch TVs and more.
Don't go to Craigslist, you'll be murdered.
Wash your dishes!
Whatever you do, respect your roommate, and make sure he respect you. Give eachother space when you need it.

Well we have been best friends since 3rd grade so I think that's a tick mark on that part of the check list.
do your laundry, you don't want to smell
Do not shit on the carpet.
edit:
I guess facepunch likes shitting on carpets
For the love of all that is holy. Wash everything, clean everything, just do some kind of household cleansing activity at least once a fortnight/ week. If there is one thing I have learned living at Uni so far, most of your flatmates are quite happy to let shit pile up next to the sink. Even when maintenance have complained to them multiple times.
Just don't let it get that bad, make sure you at least try and keep the place clean.
Maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet.
dont fuck your friend's girlfriend

Unless her boyfriend is into that.
for the love of god don't eat everything in the fridge

It's hard to as it is. I'm on diet for my workouts to get toned. It's a bitch being so strict on food, I've never done this in my life.
If the cooking taste like shit, eat it anyway. Or don't eat. I lived off of chips and salsa when I lived with my girlfriend for a month. Her mom just couldn't cook.

Do you have any idea how expensive that is compared to actually cooking food?
Have a threesome with your friend and his girlfriend.

Doesn't mean you'll get along perfectly. Differing opinions on washing/buying food or music might cause problems. Just try to be comprimising but not a push over.
I've always found the best way to look for rentals is to actually get out and see what's in your area. If you can't do that, try asking other friends to see if they know of anything.
Make sure the house rules are set and adhered to. As much as it may sound really pathetic to have some, it might just save your relationship with your friend. Things such as "don't touch my shit unless you ask" and so on, just basic things really.
Never, and I mean NEVER open the box.

My rules are going to be similar to this.

It's probably going to be my number 1 rule.
This is so relevant to me, I'm actually moving in with friends on the 1st of January, Goodluck with your new place!
Buy a toilet plunger.
when you masturbate make sure you have enough tissue so it doesn't shoot through the tissue and on to your wall.
That's exactly what I'm doing. Going to live in a flat with my friend in month.
