David Cameron has told European leaders that the west risks making similar mistakes in appeasing Vladimir Putin over Ukraine as Britain and France did with Adolf Hitler in the run-up to the second world war.
In a heated debate about the crisis behind closed doors in Brussels on Saturday, the prime minister told an EU summit that Putin had to be stopped from seizing all of Ukraine, according to La Repubblica, the Italian newspaper, which obtained details of the confidential discussion.
Downing Street declined to confirm the prime minister's remarks, but did not contest the accuracy of the report.
Cameron likened the west's dilemma with Putin to the infamous conduct of the British prime minister, Neville Chamberlain, with Hitler in Munich in 1938, when Anglo-French appeasement encouraged the Nazi leader to invade Poland the following year, sparking the second world war.
"We run the risk of repeating the mistakes made in Munich in '38. We cannot know what will happen next," Cameron was reported as saying. "This time we cannot meet Putin's demands. He has already taken Crimea and we cannot allow him to take the whole country."
It always comes back to Hitler.

He always finds a way to goose-step into the conversation.
let's make fun of him instead

Instead of calling him Putin, we start calling him "Pudding".
That'll show him

Well, Hitler is a good example of what not to do.

It's not Godwin if it actually applies to preventing history from repeating itself.

He might've never joined the Nazis if art school wasn't his final solution for employment.
if hitler was alive today, I wonder what he'd say about the Ukraine situation.
The wave of appalling terrorism against the [minority] inhabitants of Poland, and the atrocities that have been taking place in that country are terrible for the victims, but intolerable for a Great Power which has been expected to remain a passive onlooker. We will not continue to tolerate the persecution of the minority, the killing of many, and their forcible removal under the most cruel conditions. I see no way by which I can induce the government of Poland to adopt a peaceful solution. But I should despair of any honourable future for my own people if we were not, in one way or another, to solve this question."

He uses a picture of himself as a background? What a douche.
It's the centenary, but still no-one remembers the First World War.

And shit, are people really trying to build up support for a Russian war this close to winter?
It's the centenary, but still no-one remembers the First World War.
Is that rock cozy? Because the centenary memorial services have been going on for at least 5 months now.
Holy shit! David Cameron has balls after all. But lazyguy is right. I don't want to see any more war rhetoric from NATO until after the Russian yearly 'I win' button has passed. For goodness' sake, while you're studying the mistakes of the Second World War, try Operation Barbarossa.

Well no, Looking back before the actual start of ww2, the allies really did appease Hitler to the point where he could just do anything in europe without much retaliation from the allies, the only thing that fucked up hitlers plans was invading poland who had an agreement with the UK for backup.
If we had just stopped being passive agressive with him, we could of prevented world war 2
The situation back then with Hitler was entirely different.

"Hello mein freunde, was ist happening around here?"
Now I needed a picture of Hitler peeking around a door with a naughty smile, but fucker is so evil that he was never fotographed doing that apparently.
Munich Agreement.
I believe that's the epitome of Hitler appeasement.
We gave him pieces of land from other countries against those country's wishes because Hitler said they had a German majority.
An appeasement that in the end failed hard because Hitler just invaded the rest of the country afterwards.
First the Threats,
Then the Sanctions,
Then the invasion,
Then the World War, Russia is becoming the enemy it once destroyed before.
I always thought that when Putin gets older he'll start giving less of a fuck about anything. Seems like the kind of guy that'd want to go out with a bang which worries me.
So now Russians are nazis?
So now Russians are nazis?
no commie nazis
Could this ever really develop into a World War 3 though?

They were allies before being enemies

Imagine how different the world would look had they accepted him...
The situation back then with Hitler was entirely different.
I don't know, there are a good deal of parallels. The world is recovering from a severe economic downturn, and just like how everyone was scared of going to war back then because of air power and chemical weapons, we're now terrified of open conflict because of biological warfare and the nuke.
Hasn't appeasement already happened in the case of Crimea?
Lets wait until they invade Poland before doing anything.
