• Bought an Xbox 360 wireless controller to use with my PC but it doesn't work.

I have a Lenovo Y50 laptop running Windows 8.1 64 bit. I bought a wireless Xbox 360 controller, and a litle USB wireless adapter dongle. The CD that came with the adapter doesn't autorun, and the two setup.exe files I found while poking through the disk say they are not compatible, even when I run them as administrator in XP SP2 compatibility mode. So instead, I went to the Microsoft controller help page and downloaded drivers from there. When I press the connect button on the adapter and then the connect button on the controller, the green lights spin but just go back to flashing. This is very frustrating because I'd expect Microsoft hardware to work with Microsoft software, but I guess not. I'm not even sure the drivers installed properly because there are no Win 8/8.1 drivers, so I use Win 7 64 bit, and my OS denies me a lot of permissions even though I'm the administrator. I never grew up with a console so I'm very unfamiliar with controllers in general. I don't really know what I'm doing, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [editline]][/editline] Ok, so when I press the 'search for connections' button on the controller it spins and spins forvever, and only goes back to blinking on and off after I press the connect button on the adapter. So I'm going to guess its a driver issue, because the controller is detecting the adapter but can't connect to it. Any ideas?
did you actually buy a legit dongle? those are notoriously counterfeited products
did you actually buy a legit dongle? those are notoriously counterfeited products
That could be the problem. Can you link me to one that works?
It's fake.
Well that would be a problem wouldn't it What should I get instead?
Go to device manager > right click on device that represents wireless receiver > update driver software > browse my computer > let me pick from a list > Microsoft common controller for Windows class > Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows > yes .

No, don't buy another cable. You are NOT going to get the wireless controller working without the wireless receiver, because the cable is for charging only. You should have gotten a wired controller. Just follow these instructions here. Make sure you have the Xbox 360 Accessories Driver installed. Also, read the damn comments on the Amazon page.
did you actually buy a legit dongle? those are notoriously counterfeited products
They are heavily counterfeited products, but almost all of them work. The only difference is that the drivers do not auto-install for the fake ones. You have to manually select them. The process has already been posted in this thread, so no need to post it again.

Did the same and i've never had a problem with it after i got it all figured out
