WARNING: This thread may cause an overflow of nostalgia, reminiscing, crying with tears and happiness and sadness at your favorite moments from Disney THREAD THEME: Disney (or The Walt Disney Company to you diehard fans) is an animated company that was founded on October 16, 1923, by Walt and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands. The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, and today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, A&E Television Networks, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 14 theme parks around the world. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company. TL;DR - Disney was founded by Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney, who went on to create this guy... But hey, that's not all they created, with all of his friends and such... I'm pretty sure they also created some of your favorite movies of all time. You know, the movies that you grew up with. These ones... Holy shit I'd forgotten how many fucking awesome movies they've made.
So much nostalgia. I owe Disney much of my childhood. [editline]27th January 2012[/editline] Also, let's give you another nostalgia induced heart attack. Lion King was the best imo, Princess and the frog was getting back into the old days.
I really wish Disney didn't have such a spotty record with DVD releases. "You want 'Little Mermaid 3: Ariel Harder' on Blu-ray? Sure!" "You want us to release TV shows on DVD? ARE YOU CRAZY." Hence why Gargoyles, Tail Spin, and the other Disney afternoon shows were all only partial releases and the first two seasons of Kim Possible are Movie Club exclusives that cost an arm and a leg.
princess and the frog was p great [editline]27th January 2012[/editline] the bad guy had the best song

Favourites are probably Hercules, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Beauty and the Beast. I was never really a fan of the Lion King (this ALWAYS makes people angry). I though the sequel was ok though.
oliver and company + atlantis mothafuckkkkkaaaa
I'm having a marathon though most of the films. It's surprising how awesome most of these films are (besides the obvious shitty sequels to most of them).
way to many fuckin great movies on there to pick favorites so have some fantasia
I hate hate HATE that they don't make more 2D animated features. They just shut everything down after Treasure Planet and Home on the Range didn't do super well. They said "Welp guess 2D animation can't sell well anymore BYE ANIMATORS!" Even though those movies were niche and terrible, respectively. Rather than saying "Hm, maybe our stories were catering to too specific a market/weren't up to par" they assumed an ENTIRE MEDIUM HAD BECOME OBSOLETE. The thing that gets me even madder is when Princess and the Frog showed that 2D could still be profitable they went right back to more 3D stuff and even changed an upcoming movie that was set to be 2D to 3D. Grrrrrrr. 2D animation is timeless. Disney needs to stop trying to be "hip" and just focus on quality. Screw it, I'll start my own animation studio! With blackjack and hookers!
Don't count 2D out just yet. Lasseter is still committed to the artform, and the 2D department at Disney is still up and running, working on another flick from Ron Clements and Jon Musker (directors of Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, and Princess and the Frog).

Title hasn't been announced yet, but there are rumors that its an adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk. Also, a 2D Mickey, Donald, and Goofy film has apparently been pitched, and there's talk of King of the Elves being switched to 2D. Sadly, the 2D adaptation of Mort (the Discworld book) was canceled following a dispute over rights.
I'd love a new film with Mickey, Donald and Goofy. I mean, I don't care much about Mickey (he's kinda bland), but I love Donald and Goofy. It's nice to know that they're bringing up their 2D studios again.
A Goofy Movie was pretty good even though it's not the Mickey, Donald and Goofy movie you want.
Disney was so awesome back in the day.
Lion King was the best imo, Princess and the frog was getting back into the old days.
I'd have to agree. Also, Disney would agree as well. That's the movie that allowed the animators to come back to the studio lot. Before that all "disney" movies were actually created in a trailer off-site when they found animated movies to be a let-down. I'd say Lion King and Rescuers down under were my favorite.
It's Disney-Pixar, so it counts Fucking psyched for this
Since Tangled came out and was actually pretty good, i have some high hopes for Brave.
Since Tangled came out and was actually pretty good, i have some high hopes for Brave.
Tangled wasn't done by Pixar though. Anyway, for some reason I never saw the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I watched it yesterday. Fuck me, that's some dark stuff in there. It's probably the darkest Disney animated movie I've seen so far.
Lilo and Stitch is my favorite traditionally animated(You know, like a cartoon) Disney movie, and Dinosaur and Tangled are tied for my favorite CG Disney movie. Those Carnotaurs man.
Tangled wasn't done by Pixar though. Anyway, for some reason I never saw the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I watched it yesterday. Fuck me, that's some dark stuff in there.
Brave looks like it's going to suck. After Up, everything is going downhill.
Because Cars a good movie.
Your right, it was done by Disney, which is what this thread is about. And since Brave is Disney/Pixar, it's still relevant.
I didn't meant that Brave isn't relevant. I meant to say that those are different studios within Disney. Anyway, I can't wait for Brave. The trailer looked awesome and what I heard from the story so far sounds good. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] Woo, and I just found this: http://www.disneyanimation.com/library/list.html It's a list of the publications of Disney animation studios. If you're interested in the technical stuff behind rendering and drawing, this is a gold mine. Also, they put out some of their tools as open source.
I dont know how i feel about Brave yet. I trust Pixar but well just have to see
Treasure planet is the best IMO
Kinda curious for Brave myself. Could be good, can't be horrendous, can it?
Kinda curious for Brave myself. Could be good, can't be horrendous, can it?
Unless a fuckton of references to pop culture get shoved into it, it looks pretty promising.
