Attention, soldiers! After a uniquely challenging development period, Arma 3 is set to begin public alpha manoeuvres next week. From the 5th March, pre-orders for the military sim will go live on Steam, offering instant access to anyone who purchases either the Alpha or Digital Deluxe editions of the game. The alpha trial will include four missions (“Infantry, Vehicles, SCUBA and Helicopter”), a limited selection of weapons and vehicles, two multiplayer scenarios, the scenario editor and modding support. All this will take place on the 20 km² island of Stratis, the smaller brother of the full game’s 270 km² Atlis.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/02/26/arma-3-alpha-goes-live-next-week-get-instant-access-through-steam-pre-order/
Can't wait to see whether or not they put in the effort to make it properly utilize multicore systems.
Oh cool, there's going to be a free lite version without multiplayer/mods. Hopefully it doesn't make the textures look like complete ass, like it did for ArmA 2: Free. [editline]r[/editline] Uh, I don't really get why this is getting dumbs, I just thought the laughably low-res textures in ArmA 2's free version weren't a necessary limitation.
$32? pretty cheap
Can't wait to see weather or not they put in the effort to make it properly utilize multicore systems.
I'm pretty sure they had weather on ARMA 2.
I'm pretty sure they had weather on ARMA 2.
so ~punny~
£20? Deluxe edition that includes the soundtrack etc, rather than exclusive OP weapons? No day one DLC? Bohemia need to get with the program
£20? Deluxe edition that includes the soundtrack etc, rather than exclusive OP weapons? What is this craziness
Because it isn't a shooter with a level system, its a game that only a few people enjoy.
Sweet, I didnt try Arma II until after I had played DayZ, but I have been having a lot of fun with the custom missions, enough to convince me to buy Arma 3 despite DayZ going standalone. It's only 25 euros too, will be an instant buy from me.
But do we get TF2 hats???
I hope so or I won't pre-order
25 euros for alpha, beta and full game? Damn Bohemia! You scary!
Just a little info if people are thinking of buying it: Its DX11 exclusive, meaning it won't run on any card incapable of DX11 and you're going to need a CPU from the past 1 or 2 years if you want to have a somewhat playable experience. Apparently they reversed their DX11 exclusive decision, nevermind. You're still going to need a decent CPU otherwise don't bother.
I hope that the movement isn't as clunky as ARMA 2
itt people caring about arma because of DayZ
Buying this immediately.
itt people caring about arma because of DayZ
Who cares? A lot of people were introduced to Arma through DayZ, and it also massively increased the profits of the series, potentially funding a large portion of Arma 3 development. I'm not trying to start an argument/flame war, but I hate that so many people who played Arma II before DayZ feel the need to point it out and act superior/complain about people who bought it for DayZ. I bought the game for DayZ as it was starting to gain traction and after reading the FP thread, and I have also had a lot of fun playing Arma II.
so ~punny~
Do you even know what punny means? Unless you're being sarcastic. I can't really tell.

I most definitely won't be able to play this, but by gum am I preordering and saving some money
It was more the influx of people who started fucking around on ArmA servers once they realized they could ruin games and spawn jets/bomb people anonymously.
Yeah I understand that, but its stupid that people take their frustrations out on everyone that plays DayZ. Any popular game is going to have cheaters, and it isn't the fault of DayZ that it turned out to be a big hit and made the game extremely popular.

I don't get the varying HDD space requirements. Are there 2 versions or what? Or is first one the free lite one?
I don't get the varying HDD space requirements. Are there 2 versions or what? Or is first one the free lite one?
One is for the alpha, the other is for the final retail game. Presumably the alpha will be missing a few things
I don't get the varying HDD space requirements. Are there 2 versions or what? Or is first one the free lite one?
Most games have much higher recommended free HDD space than minimum, I'm not entirely sure why they do this nowadays, maybe its just a trend that was set in earlier days? Either that or just to be on the safe side for whatever reason. If you mean the one labelled Alpha, then that is for the alpha, and the higher one is for the game when it is released, because the alpha will not include all of the content that will be in the final version.
One is for the alpha, the other is for the final retail game. Presumably the alpha will be missing a few things
Such as the main island.
One is for the alpha, the other is for the final retail game. Presumably the alpha will be missing a few things
No, one is for minimum the other is for 'if you want to actually aim'.
I don't get the varying HDD space requirements. Are there 2 versions or what? Or is first one the free lite one?
you need at least 16 gbs, bare minimum, but it's recommended that you have more to hold more save data.
I sure hope it's optimized this time or I'm not going to be happy pre-ordering it
that doesn't explain why the non-alpha minimum and recommended hardware requirements are 15 and 25 GB the alpha requirements are 10 and 20 GB so obviously something's missing there
Presumably the alpha only includes Stratis.
itt people caring about arma because of DayZ
right because im sure there weren't people that got hl for just CS or Wanted! (If you remember that one) or people that got hl2 for gmod but i dont see anyone bitching about those
