[release]A U.N. resolution justifies the targeting of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, a senior NATO military official with operational knowledge of the Libya mission told CNN Thursday.
NATO has been ramping up pressure on the regime, employing helicopters last weekend for the first time against Gadhafi's military vehicles, equipment and forces. Explosions are heard often in Tripoli, evidence of allied air strikes.
NATO began bombing Libya on March 31, under a U.N. mandate to protect civilians during the fighting between government forces and rebels who have seized most of eastern Libya.[/release]http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/06/09/source-nato-now-targeting-gadhafi/
I know its not much of an article but hey shit just got real!
So now we can catch him/ kill him?
Well, it's about time!
Good, now we can properly bring him to justice.

justice
lol
:black101:
a little bit late for them to authorize the targeted killing of the guy, but ok
it seems a tad unorganized for you to disobey international law and send in airstrikes on his home compound in hopes of killing him (and kill his children/grandchildren in the process), and then after a month or so of doing all that, you decide to make it official
We're preparing for another attack, and yet we've been ignoring the War Powers Act of 1973 for almost a month. Legally, in ten days all the US troops need to return home from Libya.

I hope you realize that his home is built in the center of a massive military base. Previous airstrikes to the compound have been targeting only military structures within the compound.
Gaddfi will be written in history books as the only dictator with twenty different names.
[sp]If you don't get it, every one spells his name differently for some reason, Gaddfi, Gahddfi, Gadhafi, Gahdfi, Muammar, Muammar, it never ends[/sp]
Some replace the G with K too, I don't get it. What the fuck is his real name..
No. No! Bad NATO, bad!
See, I could stand behind defending civilians, which was the clearly worded intent of the resolution. But then we intentionally started targeting equipment and units that were not harming civilians, in an obvious side-taking. THEN we clear the way for the rebels. We stopped 'protecting civilians' and started 'fighting with the rebels' long ago.
But here's my issue with this: To ensure that A) The revolution would still be a Libyan one, led by Libya, for Libya, on Libya's terms, with the push being responsible by Libyans, and B) this doesn't turn into a classic Cold War future nose-sticking run.
What I mean by that is that by having NATO kill Ghaddafi, then we can't say it was the Libyans, and the revolution will lose the wind to its sails, especially in the post-war. It's happened before. This is a Libyan civil war, and it is important that the Libyan people see themselves as the victors, NOT a foreign power. It is essential to the success of the regime after, and the keeping of peace. When the old Libya falls, it needs to be "We united peoples of Libya stopped the reign of Ghaddafi, built a new republic, and gave power tot he people," and not, "The Europeans and Americans stopped Ghaddafi for us, and we will form a government based around what our powerful allies would like to see." It's happened before. Plenty of times. It could happen again.
Point B has more to do with, well, I don't want this turning into a case of intervention of western powers into another middle eastern nation's politics, policies, bussineses, and culture. If the west ends this thing, then publicly the Libyans won't have as much influence over all over their people. The new government would be 'indebted' to their powerful friends, who will try to pull strings and influence people to bring in all the things that have happened to the many nations before them that found themselves protected by Europeans or Americans.
I'm also concerned about how the Libyans as a whole will respond. Obviously most will see this as a positive thing, but many will turn against the rebellion, or turn towards Ghaddafi, as they interpret this as Ghaddafi's claims coming true- that this is a western attempt to take the country, to recolonize, or to take their resources. Libyans asked for a blockade and a no-fly zone, and initially they were strongly opposed to any sort of troops or intervention beyond that. This is not a good move by NATO for Libya.
But it's a good move by NATO for NATO.

I think it's about time.

its because its really hard to translate arabic text into english, i think names written in a different alphabet(chinese, greek, etc.) should be spelled phonetically in english
gadhafi afaik is the best spelling of his name, we should use that instead of gaddafi and qadaffi
Some replace the G with K too, I don't get it. What the fuck is his real name..
I think it's Qaddafi
If they're targeting Gaddafi, does that mean they will take the opportunity to take him out? Or do they still try to take him into custody?
Gaddafi sends soldiers to rape people who oppose him. Maybe we should send soldiers to rape him. He's an asshole, he kinda deserves it.

i think gadhafi is a little(read as: incredibly) insane. as much as i hate what hes done i feel that he should be given compassion and help rather than revenge, but thats a pipe dream, he is gonna burn at the stake when rebels get a hold of him
Pointless, NATO already killed him and the rebels got the rest of the military by the balls.
Pointless, NATO already killed him
Source?
Guess NATO wants to wrap this up quickly. The rebels have a hard time pushing through Gadhafi's military forces.
Oh man you guys are so bent on always killing every "bad guy".
Edit: I also wonder what would have happened to NATO aid for the libyan rebels if the SAD blokes on the ground prior to air strikes had found out that the rebellion was Al Queda ran or similar. Would NATO have not helped the rebels in fear of erecting a new Al Queda safe haven even though on invidual level, innocent people were dying?

He may be an asshole but that 'Eye for an eye' shit will be really stupid to do.
I don't want him to be harmed.
I want to see him in a hilarious court case where he defends his actions.

There was a report that has shown that he gives his troops viagra so they can rape more women.

You want us to send soldiers out to rape him? What soldier in his right mind would want to rape Gaddafi?

He is probably living in a bunker underneath the military compound though too.
Send this asshole ghadaffi to hell.
Better yet capture him and imprison him in Antarctica for life
