thats fucked up, this man's life just got fucked, he lost 20 years. He should totally sue jurisdiction and police for keeping free man in prison.
Sue-sue!!!! Here comes the lawsuit! Next stop, pig-town!
They probably felt the need to put someone away, just to appease the public. It sure as hell doesn't make things right, but...fuck, I've got nothin'.
The police are corrupt thugs high on power with no morals... well a huge chunk of them.
Although no physical evidence linked Ranta to the crime, he was convicted by a jury and sentenced to 37.5 years in prison based on witness testimonies.

"They're saying that I framed it," Scarcella told CNN..... " I slept very good for the last 22 years."
wtfffffff are you doing justice system
wtfffffff are you doing justice system
Jeez, you put one guy through hell for a measly score of years, and suddenly people don't appreciate the use of act utilitarianism as a basis for choices made by the police. Didn't you sleep easier thinking that there was one less murderer on the streets over the past two decades?
Victim will get monetary payout, those responsible will never see a trial, cops will see no negative repercussion. Nobody cares about what happened because nobody will do anything about it. It's a continuing and horrifying trend that needs to stop.
what the fuck justice system
The whole law officer appreciation thing seems like a huge load of bullshit to me. Statistically you are more likely to die from a law enforcement officer whether that be neglected while in incarceration or just shot than you are to be killed while being a law enforcement officer.
And people were calling for the death penalty when this happened too.
Reminds me of the Barry George case, he was jailed for 8 years for a murder he didn't commit. When he was released he tried to claim £500,000 in compensation but got nothing.

That is almost like saying, you have a greater chance of dying to a special forces team than being killed as a special forces team member... Well yeah, you are trained to handle deadly situations and come out on top... I mean, I know what you are trying to get at, but you are doing a very poor job of it.
Menachem Lieberman says he suffered too long with the guilt of sending an innocent man to jail for decades, causing him to approach investigators with a reversed statement in 2011.
Why the hell did this guy wait so long to come forward?
Really, the shitty thing about police lineups is that they pressure the person into picking somebody, anybody, from the lineup, fearing that they're just wasting everyone's time if they don't, so there's a higher risk of sending an innocent person away. Easier would be to just let the suspects enter the room one by one and the witness says "no" until he sees the one he recognizes, without knowing how many suspects there are in total.

The lineup is a fundamentally broken system, basic human psychology dictates that we tend to pick the person who most resembles the actual perpetrator, because we subconsciously refuse to acknowledge that "none of the above" is a valid option. Combine that with pushy police telling you to just pick somebody already so they can throw them in jail and close the case, and you have a recipe for imprisoning innocent people. Despite what CSI says, the vast majority of criminal cases are decided based on nothing but witness testimony. The word of two or three collaborating people is still enough to put you in jail for the rest of your life.
Why the hell did this guy wait so long to come forward?
Because humans aren't perfect at morality. He probably felt guilt or feared repercussions for coming forward.

Lumberjacks are also trained to hire dangerous situations and see CONSIDERABLY more danger than law enforcement according to the bls. God bless those lumberjacks who risk their lives to provide us with wood. Yeah fuck all cops in their stupid fucking asses I am making these fuckers job as hard as possible. Compared to a woodsman being a cop seems like a walk in a park danger wise. Believe it or not but cops do not really see that much danger. Same with Alaskan King Crab fishermen they have like 8x more deaths than law enforcement. Go ahead look at the bls "being a cop is dangerous" is a myth perpetuated by morons because according to the bls there are a hundred other professions with higher mortality rates.
I don't care how much danger cops have to deal with, the entire idea that a group of people should be elevated in power above the rest of the population is flawed and insanely susceptible to corruption.

Really making me rethink a career in law enforcement.
