So, long time ago, i have been struggling with the access to some basic parts of my pc like the usb ports, the card reader and even the damn dvd reader.
Im in an administrator account, and it says i have full control over everything, but i tried updating the usb ports and it says it doesnt have access to them
what
i dont really know whats wrong with it, i can sometimes access some pendrives and the mouse works fine on the usb, but still, its getting really weird
anyone knows whats wrong with it?
Do you have the drivers installed correctly?
As a general diagnostic, not something specific to this problem, I'd like to ask you to download and install Speccy and screenshot the main summary page. May sound silly, but it may reveal interesting information about the system that we can use. Or maybe not, but either way, we won't know until it's posted.
here

Thanks. Everything looks usual, which means it didn't really tell me anything. Although, your computer's kind of running hot, unless 62C is normal for it or there's something wonky with the temperature sensors. Overheat shutdown isn't until somewhere around 100C so you're not at risk there, just seems like it's running a little hot. Probably not related to this at all.
Hmm. Plug in a USB stick and open up Device Manager and see if you can find it.
Also, try and trigger it to happen, and then give us the exact error message, please?
i tried plugging my new camera, and this is the message, as always

this is the list i got on the device manager, seems like lots of errors

If this is a laptop, are you proficient with navigating in Windows with just the keyboard? (If it's not a laptop and you have both a USB keyboard and mouse, this is a little trickier.)
What does Device Manager say is the problem with the Unknown devices? I can guess, but I'd like to see the actual error.
well the mouse and the mousepad work fine, the mouse is via usb so its weird that it still works.
this is the error i get with those warnings

yes, it is a laptop
So, uh, that wasn't the error I was hoping to see. But, it's not the end of the world yet.
Uninstall all of the things marked Unknown device, even the one that doesn't have a ! in the screenshot. Then click Scan for hardware changes.
How long has this been happening?
unistalled them all and scanned for hardware changes...nothing happened.
this is happening for a really long time, im an idiot for not seeking help before its just i was really busy
and it didnt bother me until know, its getting ridiculous.
I think Windows 7 hates USB anything. I've had several machines that spontaneously had almost every USB device start malfunctioning, and the problem didn't go away until the USB hub drivers were completely removed and reinstalled, or Windows was reinstalled.

how can i remove and reinstall the ports?
Remove and reinstall the "generic USB hub" and the "Intel USB Host controller"
The problem with doing this though is when you uninstall those devices, the keyboard and mouse generally go with them so you can't actually do anything after you remove them. The only way to control the machine after you remove those is if you have a remote desktop session going so you can control it remotely.

thinking about it, it still doesnt explain why the dvd reader and the card reader wont work though, so im guessing it is something else, maybe something with the permissions?

Or plug in a serial mouse (now you have to find a serial mouse or a USB-to-serial adapter).
The reason I asked if autodesknoob knew how to navigate the machine with keyboard only was because I wasn't about to have him uninstall the hubs and host controllers without any advance warning or instructions.
But that'd be the next step.

The card reader is a USB device.
Can't explain the DVD drive though, unless it's failing.
now im having problems installing nvidia drivers
it has to be some access shit
Open a command prompt as administrator and type this to get the System File Checker on the case:
sfc /scannow

Except the USB ports would be disabled due to lack of drivers :downs:

Your problems are getting weirder. Did you do a virus scan? And what about checking your hard drive for issues?

Not if it's a female USB to male serial adapter and the machine has a serial port. :downs:
No, it probably doesn't, but we didn't get that far in questioning.
This is looking like the best solution is a backup and then pave over Windows and do a fresh install, anyway. When things just get weirder and weirder, priority usually should switch to extracting what you care about and burning the rest down.

Those would be amazing if they existed, I could have (really slow) flash drives on my 83 MHz 486 overdrive :downs:
And yeah, it would probably be a good idea to bulldoze Windows and start over.
Dur, okay, when I say "serial" in this thread, I meant PS/2. And female USB to male PS/2 adapters definitely exist.
Shows you how long since I've actually had to even think about that shit.
I have a whole drawer full of those things :v:
Can't remember the last time I had to use one though.

I can... :suicide:
