My FLAC collection is growing and even though my current AKG K 272 HD headphones work like a charm and produce a wonderful sound I'd like to purchase some real speakers to fill my room with audiophile deliciousness.
Looking through the "Post your speakers" thread I noticed some quality equipment but before I make any definite decision on buying anything I thought I'd ask the FP.
There's no limit on the price but I'd rather keep it under 500€/~700$. The room is itself isn't that big (around 25m² if that matters) and I'd be happy with stereo speakers as long as they're capable of delivering crisp sound with differentiable highs, mids and lows.
I honestly think you should ask in an audiophile forum if you want to get seriously great speakers.
The Z-5500s are great speakers, can't go wrong with those.
:cawg:
Build them yourself. It's generally a waste of money to buy speakers if you're spending more than a couple hundred and want something good.

rated you box because you listen to shitty music.

Ahahahahaahaha
Posting Z-5500's in an audiophile thread, is that a joke? because it's hilarious
Also invest in a good soundcard
Buy a sound card and use an HRTF with those headphones.

I have asked in an audiophile forum a few months back and got a bunch of 1500€+ suggestions. Except for one pair of speakers that had gotten shit reviews on the few sites I checked.

Not gonna happen. I may just be able to come with a circuit diagram but my soldering isn't good enough for me to waste a couple o' hundred Euros on.

I own an X-Fi EXTRRRREME Audio (PCI version) but I'm looking into switching to an Auzentech Forte.
ASUS recently launched an audiophile line of Xonar. You should look into that.
Buy a HiFi. The sound quality you can get from a decent Hifi is a lot better than that of a computer, even with a top notch sound card.

if you mean this I'll pass as it's more of a home cinema card with hardware decoding for bluray standards and other yadayada that plays audio at the same resolution as the Forte.

Actually I wanted to build a PC in one of those neato burrito HiFi cases with decent equipment. The only thing I wasn't sure about were the speakers.

You're dumb.
The OP can't get audiophile speakers because he's not spending $6,000. Hell I doubt he could even use real speakers because he would have to buy a nice receiver or amp. Anyways, I recommend these for a low end set.
Two of these,

and

You're looking at $750 just for two nice bookshelf speakers and a low end receiver.
