He said the US recognised Israel's right to defend itself and that it was right for the US to stand with Israel. US President Barack Obama has focused on using sanctions to contain Iran's nuclear ambitions. In his speech in front of Jerusalem's Old City, Mr Romney said Iran's leading ayatollahs were "testing our moral defences". "They want to know who will object and who will look the other way. We will not look away nor will our country ever look away from our passion and commitment to Israel." He said Iran was "the most destabilising nation in the world" and that the US had "a solemn duty and a moral imperative to deny Iran's leaders the means to follow through on their malevolent intentions". 'All measures' Earlier, one of Mr Romney's top advisers, Dan Senor, had said the presidential candidate would respect any decision by Israel to use military force against Iran. While not directly addressing this, Mr Romney said the US should "employ any and all measures to dissuade the Iranian regime from its nuclear course." "It is our fervent hope that diplomatic and economic measures will do so. In the final analysis, of course, no option should be excluded." During his speech, Mr Romney referred to Jerusalem as Israel's capital, something the current US administration and most of the international community does not do. "It is a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel," he said. Israel claims the entire city but the Palestinians want the eastern part of Jerusalem to be the capital of a future Palestinian state. Earlier on Sunday, Mr Romney held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres. He told Mr Peres he shared Israel's concern about the development of Iran's nuclear capabilities, saying: "The threat it would pose to Israel, the region and the world is incomparable and unacceptable." After his meetings with Israeli officials, he went to Jerusalem's Western Wall, one of Judaism's holy sites. Mr Romney will be hoping that burnishing his pro-Israel credentials will help him among key constituencies in a tight race with Mr Obama, analysts say. Mr Romney says Mr Obama has undermined Israel and supported its enemies. The Republican presidential hopeful also met Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, though not Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. 'Islamist winter' fears While not explicitly ruling out military intervention, President Barack Obama's policy has emphasised non-military means of putting pressure on Iran. The BBC's North America editor Mark Mardell says Mr Romney is highly critical of the international talks taking place which might lead to Iran being allowed to enrich some uranium. Mr Romney wants zero enrichment. The first leg of Mr Romney's trip, in London, was marred by controversy. After talking of "disconcerting" signs in London's preparations for the Olympic Games, Mr Romney backtracked and predicted a "very successful" Olympics. In a photo opportunity before his talks with Mr Fayyad, Mr Romney said the opening ceremony had been "spectacular" and praised the face that for the first time, every country has sent women to compete.
I'm already not going to vote for Romney, but thank you for sharing. I don't know if it's just me reading biased sources, but everything I read about him convinces me more and more not to vote for him.

Mitt Romney: fucking insane.
Yay war!
I always feel the need to post this in threads like this http://www.chomsky.info/articles/20100702.htm
Another reason to vote for Romney, obongo can't decide and we don't want those people with nuclear weapons!
He's really very similar to Obama on almost everything, he is just pandering to a different group.
Totally the same, except not at all. But apart from that, Identical! [editline]29th July 2012[/editline]
Another reason to vote for Romney, obongo can't decide and we don't want those people with nuclear weapons!
Only White people deserve power!
He's really very similar to Obama on almost everything, he is just pandering to a different group.
Uhm last time i checked, obama isnt a batshit insane as romney, not by a long shot.
Romney will get more terrorism in America by supporting Israel. He would piss off the radical muslims more and might push some of the moderate muslims over the edge with his shit foreign policy. BTW, we can't go to war with Iran. We don't have to money to fund a war. We should be focusing on creating jobs and achieving a surplus instead of life and economy destroying warfare.

Lost my vote a long time ago. I don't even want to participate in the election.
Uhm last time i checked, obama isnt a batshit insane as romney, not by a long shot.
It's only because he has to appeal to the worst constituency in any developed nation, ever. Obama is really centrist and it's pretty obvious Romney would be too when it comes to actual policy.
Vote for me, get World War 3. Great sales pitch there, Mitt.
Lost my vote a long time ago. I don't even want to participate in the election.
Other parties exist for a reason. Anyways, Romney would seriously be the worst choice out of any candidate
Fucking moron
He isn't even president and he's already trying to start another war.
Fucking mormon
Fixed
He isn't even president and he's already trying to start another war.
Wars are not very scary or undesirable if you are a rich guy who is not going to have to do any of the fighting.
Wars are not very scary or undesirable if you are a rich guy who is not going to have to do any of the fighting.
Or if you pretend all the people dying are going to go hang out with the sky fairies.
Or if you pretend all the people dying are going to go hang out with the sky fairies.
lol that has nothing to do with anything in this argument.
lol that has nothing to do with anything in this argument.
Whose argument? We're agreeing. [editline]29th July 2012[/editline] I'm pretty sure there is absolutely no argument in this thread right now, and I'm not even the first one to make a Mormon joke. [editline]29th July 2012[/editline] Do you WANT to argue with me? Because I am prepared to argue about this.
I'm convinced that Mitt Romney is being held hostage by his campaign staff and backers. This is his way of saying "please don't elect me I want to go home".
I might not be really informed, but I read the news on Facepunch about this guy and every time I see bad ideas. It's like "Okay people, I'm gonna do this! ...You don't like it? Okay, then I'm gonna do that!"

What would we argue about and what argument would you present that could be arguably valid as an argument?
Yet another reason to vote for Gary Johnson.
And this is why Romney cannot and will not win the election.
He's really very similar to Obama on almost everything, he is just pandering to a different group.
I wouldn't use 'very'. But yeah, Obama's still right-wing. So much for choices.
I think romney has looked passed the fact that the US or US backed armed forces have been stomping around in the sand there for quite some time now and that the public is getting quite fed up with it, both nationally and abroad.
By mixing his ideas about Russia's democracy and then this, he could cause some serious issues for the US.
