yesterday my dad gave me hos older speaker system, a pair of Studiophile AV 30, and I was trying to hook them up to my computer and I noticed the speakers use a right and left connection (red and white) and there are no ports for them to be connected to my current motherboard which is a P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP @n.
is there anyway to connect them? sorry for sounding like a complete idiot but I'm pretty lost here. I normally just use my headphones but I would love to use these speakers.
I'm not that sure, but I guess an audio splitter would do.

how did I not think of that?
[editline]11:33PM[/editline]
so would this work?
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0244263
No, that's just going to get you one mono connection from two stereo. You'll have to find another plug.
awesome, thanks man. I'll get this tomorrow.
[editline]12:38AM[/editline]
if that isn't in stock would this be a good alternative?
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0204797
I think that only does 2x3.5mm to 3.5mm, not 2xRCA. It may work if you get two 3.5mm male to RCA female adapters, though.
when I go to Microcenter I'll just bring the cable with me and have them figure it out.
that's just for one plug though. unless I'm missing something here.
[editline]12:45AM[/editline]
oh nevermind, I get it.
[editline]12:53AM[/editline]
this is the what the speaker use

Yeah, the cable I picked out should work fine.
awesome, I'll be sure to pick it up.
[editline]01:09AM[/editline]
you mean this one right? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0308062
3.5mm to RCA
so something like this would work too? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0285890

no, those are 3.5m male to RCA male.
you need 3.5mm male to RCA female.
I don't think so.

Technically both would work, but RCA female lets you use your own RCA cables. Could be useful in the case that you needed a long cable.
Give us as photo of both back panels of the speakers and all the leads to and from them
the leads to and from are literally the same, they look like this

this is the back on the speaker

if I understand correctly, this is what you have:

In which case you want this:
yes, it's exactly like that.
Then you'll want to use your own cables as extensions
ok, so then what adapter do I get?
ok, so then what adapter do I get?
The one in the first reply that I also quoted...
but Nipa said something about the sound being mono, I'm a bit confused about that.
I ended up getting this, http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0308062, and it works great.
Those look like badass speakers. I have a pair of rear sony speakers that are huge. They went with home entertainment set and we didn't need them. So I hooked them up to a receiver and hooked that to my computer and I blew the receiver out playing music really loud. Good times, but the receiver didn't even last one day.
