I was looking at the HD 4890 and saw some benchmarks that show that it performs right around a GTX 460 768mb version. Since its 10 dollars cheaper, and the 6000 series is going to release later this year, is it really worth the extra money for the DX11? I've also seen barely any games with DX11 used anyways. Should I save the money and get the 4890 and upgrade to a 5000 series card when the 6000 series comes out?

I'm going to make this a few questions actually. So
1. Can you do RAID 0 with slave drives?
2. How do you set up a RAID, or is it detected automatically?
3. Can I use SATA 1 drives on SATA 2 and 3?
just get the 460. I'm sure you've heard it can overclock a ton? that's what i've heard at least. probably would outperform the 4890.
as for the numbers-
1. depends on the device your using to raid. I have a mobo that can raid sata drives and ones on ide. look it up.
2. you need an adapter that supports raid, and should be pretty easy to use. just choose what type of raid you want and the chunk size.
3. not sure with sata 3 but it should work on sata 2
Wait for 6000 series if you can. There is bound to be price drops on the 4000 series before the release. Also I don't really think DX11 is much to worry about. It is more of a bonus right now then a necessity for gaming.

...yet
My thinking:
In the next ~3 months the 6xxx series will be out. So if you buy a 4890 now you're basically buying a card 2 generations old...to save $10.
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Why wanting for 6000 series when you can afford a very good card right now?

I mean by good graphic card, the GTX 460 by example
Wait for the 6k series
The 4890 prforms much the same as the GTX 460. But it lacks features like DX11, uses power like if you were trying to start an airplane and fills a fucking lot more. The GTX 460 got supirior overclockability, and scales pretty darn good in SLI. GTX 460 wins over the 4890 and the 5830. But still, if you can wait for the 6*** series, do it.

Well it looks like some motherboards you don't even need an adapter.
