• Anti-virus programs won't let me play Steam games?
    9 replies, posted
I've tried AVG and Avast, both of which prevent me from playing Steam games, no matter what I do. I already have a firewall, I just need a new anti-virus. Anyone have any recommendations or a way to get Avast to work with Steam?
Neither of those programs do that by default, you must be doing something wrong (or illegal) You can try Microsoft security essentials
What happens when you run steam games with them installed
MSE
Isn't there an option to let them through?

And no, those programs are known to have problems with Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

I use Avast all the time with Steam and never have a problem.
Avast called out a few of my steam games. FarCry being one of them.

In most cases, those won't cause problems.
