US investigators believe Russian hackers breached Qatar's state news agency and planted a fake news report that contributed to a crisis among the US' closest Gulf allies, according to US officials briefed on the investigation.
The FBI recently sent a team of investigators to Doha to help the Qatari government investigate the alleged hacking incident, Qatari and US government officials say.
Intelligence gathered by the US security agencies indicates that Russian hackers were behind the intrusion first reported by the Qatari government two weeks ago, US officials say. Qatar hosts one of the largest US military bases in the region.
If you think about it. All this Russia news makes sense. If you think of divide and conquer mentality.
Not sure what percent is legit and not just assumptions but can't put it past a country like Russia or China. It is strange though seeing as the Government of Qatar the last 3 years has pledged 4b in Russian investments. But then again Qatar is a vocal opponent to Russia.

I'd be surprised if they don't have some sort of tactical plan in place to follow up on all of this stuff.
"But Russia didn't do anything," says increasingly desperate man who doesn't realize that their president is literally a former intelligence officer and these sort of tactics are par for the course in the Russian intelligence warfare playbook.
Did Trump know this when he tweeted that in opposition to Qatar?
Russia instigating mistrust between allies, colour me surprised. It's their modus operandi.
Wonder what happens to Russia when Putin finally kicks the bucket. Whether whomever comes next manages to maintain his grand schemes or they just fall apart one after the other.

china wouldn't though since qatar is like china's #1 gas seller. russia though is weird since qatar is not really anti iran, and moderately anti syria but that doesn't align them against them.
i don't see what russia really gains by dividing the arab league up either other than moderately boosting iran. this whole thing still reeks of some power grab

Maybe to cause trouble for the US in the region since we're such good buddies with Saudi Arabia but have a big ass base in Qatar?

i think you mean "But Russia didn't do anything" says increasingly nervous man with a man in a trenchcoat with an umbrella near his leg.
Makes no sense. Why would Putin instigate a crisis around Qatar of all places if it's the closest of Gulf States to being 'friendly' with Russia, we recently sold them 19% of our biggest state oil company. Putin's clique are no strangers in doing dumb shit, but this time it's their money on the line.
yeah it's almost as if people actually think the cold war was over when the wall fell.
If Russian hackers are so prominent in the news, are they too good or too bad at their job? 🤔
Pardon my flagdog, but these accusations are as much a part of Cold War 2 as those suspected hacks. It's getting increasingly difficult to trust news when the first conclusion Western sources come to is "the Russians did it".
Freelance hackers. Not surprised to see that omitted by CNN.
Some observers have claimed privately that Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates may have commissioned the hackers.
The CNN article fails to mention this and proceeds to talk about interference in US elections, making it seem like it's confirmed that Kremlin is doing something here. I just wonder which site has better anonymous sources.

There is a theory where Putin does pass away/gets shot/murdered/etc. The Death of Putin would basically cause a massive power vacuum in Russia. Which is sorta terrifying since then we'll have autonomous states that each have their own stockpiles of Nuclear weaponry. That make up the then collapsed Russian Federation. If it happens...
"The Russians, it's always the Russians" is a clique straight out of Cold War. This starts to become pathetic already.
Like, we get it, they fucked you up hard with the elections, but come on.

Nah, Russia isn't Syria and Putin is nothing like middle eastern dictators. We aren't going to just collapse if he suddenly gets out of the picture one way or the other.

Um, no, not really. Russia is very brazen in their behavior and the intelligence community is firmly aligned on the fact that Russia was behind the election meddling. The fact that they got caught doesn't mean they didn't do it..
