[release]Battlestar Galactica (also called BSG or Battlestar) is an American military science fiction television series, and part of the Battlestar Galactica franchise. The show was developed by Ronald D. Moore as a re-imagining of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica television series created by Glen A. Larson. The series first aired as a three-hour miniseries (comprising four broadcast hours) in December 2003 on the Sci-Fi Channel, and ran for four seasons thereafter, ending its run on March 20, 2009. The series featured Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, and garnered a wide range of critical acclaim, including a Peabody Award and the Television Critics Association's Program of the Year Award, as well as Emmy nominations for its writing and directing.
The story arc of Battlestar Galactica is set in a distant star system, where a civilization of humans live on a series of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. In the past, the Colonies had been at war with a cybernetic race of their own creation, known as the Cylons. With the unwitting help of a human named Gaius Baltar, the Cylons launch a sudden sneak attack on the Colonies, laying waste to the planets and devastating their populations. Out of a population numbering in the billions, only approximately 50,000 humans survive, most of whom were aboard civilian ships that avoided destruction. Of all the Colonial Fleet, the eponymous Battlestar Galactica appears to be the only military capital ship that survived the attack. Under the leadership of Colonial Fleet officer Commander William "Bill" Adama (Olmos) and President Laura Roslin (McDonnell), the Galactica and its crew take up the task of leading the small fugitive fleet of survivors into space in search of a fabled refuge known as Earth.[/release]

Series Overview
Battlestar Galactica continued from the 2003 miniseries to chronicle the journey of the last surviving humans from the Twelve Colonies of Kobol after their nuclear annihilation by the Cylons. The survivors are led by President Laura Roslin and Commander William Adama in a ragtag fleet of ships with the Battlestar Galactica, an old-but-powerful warship as its command ship. Pursued by Cylons intent on wiping out the remnants of the human race, the survivors travel across the galaxy looking for the fabled and long-lost "thirteenth" colony: Earth. Unlike most space opera series, Battlestar Galactica has no aliens (the antagonists are man-made Cylon robots), the primary armaments used by both military forces utilize bullets, rail guns, and missiles instead of lasers, and the series intentionally avoids technobabble.[1] Instead, most of the stories deal with the apocalyptic fallout of the destruction of the Twelve Colonies upon the survivors, and the moral choices they must make as they deal with the decline of the human race, and their war with the Cylons. Stories also portray the concept of perpetuated cycles of hate and violence driving the human-Cylon conflict, and religion with the implication of a "God," whose angelic agents intervene on behalf of the main characters, most notably Gaius Baltar.
Over the course of the show's four seasons, the war between the Colonials and the Cylons takes many twists and turns. Despite the animosity on both sides, the Cylons and humans slowly turn away from their hatred of each other. Part of this is due to a growing schism within the humanoid Cylons, led by the disgruntled Cylon "Number One" named John Cavil. Cavil's obsession with hiding the true genesis of the humanoid Cylons (the "Significant Eight" created by the "Final Five," who themselves are humanoid Cylons from Earth, who had their memories erased by Cavil) leads to a civil war among the Cylons, with a faction of the robot race forming an alliance with the humans. Other plotlines involve the mysterious destiny of Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, who is the subject of a prophecy involving her as the "Harbinger of Death" who will "lead humanity to its end," as well as the redemption of Gaius Baltar through the Cylons' monotheistic religion, after he becomes a pariah within the fleet (after being forced to collaborate with the Cylons).
In the final episodes, a resurrected Kara Thrace leads the surviving humans and Cylons to a new planet, which is revealed to be Earth, with the first colonists landing in Africa. Adama names their new home planet "Earth," as a tribute to the "real" Earth of legend, which had been originally sought by the survivors. The original Earth was revealed to have been a different planet, one which had become an uninhabitable wasteland by a nuclear war waged by its Cylon creations thousands of years before. The new Earth is found to be inhabited by early humans, who are genetically compatible with the humans from the Galactica and the rest of the fleet, but who possess only the most rudimentary civilization. Human beings had apparently naturally evolved on Earth and Kobol, the original home world of the humans who settled the Twelve Colonies. The surviving humans and humanoid Cylons decide to live on the new planet, and discard all technology, destroying the fleet by flying it into the Sun. Kara Thrace disappears. The surviving Cylon Centurions are given possession of the remaining Cylon Basestar, and proceed to jump away from Earth, never to be heard from again.
The series finale concludes with an epilogue set 150,000 years later in contemporary Times Square of New York City, as two "angels" in the form of Caprica Six and Gaius Baltar, who while observing primitive robots in use in modern day New York muse on the origin and fate of humankind, and on whether or not the cycle of violence between human and machine will repeat itself once more. It is revealed that humans on Earth are in some small part descended from the half-human, half-Cylon girl named Hera Agathon, who lived out her life in Africa 150,000 years earlier, ultimately becoming Mitochondrial Eve.[/release]

I think the title of the thread should clarify that this is the Modern BSG, not the original.
Worst series finale ever.
One of the best shows ever, even if the very very end was... off. Also best soundtrack a TV series has had that I can recall
I got the full series for free because my friend ordered a copy off some 3rd party people on amazon and they shipped him two (charged him for one though).
Definitely one of the best SciFi series of the past decade, love BSG. Anybody else excited as all hell for Blood and Chrome?
And still mourning Caprica?
Sci Fi Original.
This just makes me more mad at (now) SyFy being huge dicks and putting wrestling before Sci Fi.
Also, I loved BSG. Have all of it on DVD. The finale was a tad bit disappointing though.
I adore BSG, one of my favourite shows ever. I must've watched it at least four times and I only started a year and a half ago. Sadly, the ending was a little lackluster but I still liked it, it tied up nicely enough.

I wasn't a big fan of Caprica, it opened up many, many plot holes in the universe. It was very well written though. I too am very excited for Blood and Chrome.
I forgot to mention, the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard, most tracks inspire huge amounts of emotion in me.

I'll add the original as well.
I stopped watching halfway through season three when it was airing on Sky, and I've heard that from there it sort of goes down-hill. I'll have to watch it all again though, it was a brilliant show.

Not at all. Seasons 3 and 4 are by far the better seasons as they actually have a connecting story (where as 1 and 2 were mostly standalone episodes)
They could of made the very last episode better tho. More emotions, allowing the viewer to connect to the show.
Show of the decade.
Soundtrack of the decade.

Nah, it gets better. I quite like the turn it took.
Notable points;
- The Cylon religion and it's connection to the BSG reality ([sp]"Angel" Baltar and Caprica Six[/sp])
- [sp]The Mutiny[/sp]
- "All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again"
- Just what IS Starbuck?
Those were the points that I absolutely hated about everything after Season 3.
Nevermind that ridiculous love quadrangle that comes the fuck out of no where and cheeses up the place.
It's a shame, the New Caprica plot had tons of promise but it did mostly deliver.
Also, when they actually [sp]discovered Earth was a great moment too... making it into a wasteland and such.
They should've ended the show right then and there.[/sp]

That was the point, it was during the writer's strike so they wrote it as a potential ending in case they were cancelled.

I thought all the good byes were very sad
This show was fucking boss.
So was the music in it.
It would have been cool if they settled down in Greece a couple of thousand years ago instead.
But anyway this is one of my favorite Sci-Fi shows of all time. Got all 4 seasons on Bluray. I'm only missing The Plan and Caprica to make it complete. (until Blood and Chrome airs, which will probably be awesome!)
I really enjoyed this show but then I stopped watching it for some reason after they [sp]land on that planet, get oppressed by the cylons, then the BG comes back to save them[/sp]. I think it's because we switched to comcast and I couldn't stay up so late to watch it or something. I'll probably watch this again sometime

That's the season 2's ending I believe, that might be the reason you stopped watching.

Yeah even if it was not as great as BG it was still fun watching and i like that the world in Caprica was more futuristic which is accurate since it was before the first cylon war.

When you do get it, rewatch all scene's in the "hacked interwebs land" 10 times, I dare you.
I thought all the good byes were very sad
I dont know, I didn't get enough emotion with it.
The first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica are some of the best TV I have watched. The standoff between the Battlestars Pegasus and Galactica was one of the most tense moments I've seen any show or film. The beginning of season 3 wasn't that bad, but it started to feel like they were just making things up for the sake of drama bombs and WHAT A TWEEST endings. Even Ronald Moore conceded that the show was a mess by the series finale and said that the season finale was more about "the characters" than the plot itself. As a conclusion to the characters, I thought the season finale was really good. As a conclusion to the plot? It was really silly and one deus ex machina after another.
I absolutely love this show from beginning to end. I was actually surprised there wan't a thread on it and was going to make one soon. I didn't catch them live sadly. I watched them on Netflix a couple of months ago. I could NOT stop watching. It was the fastest I have ever watched a show. It was amazing. I don't know why everyone hatted the ending. I loved it. It had a pretty epic battle and it concluded the story. [sp]I guess it was the whole Kara being an angel thing I guess?[/sp]
Some of my favorite pieces of music was

I like this one very much:

One of my favorite shows, I'm about 3/4 of the way through the 3rd season.
I'm going through this a second time with my dad right now, and it's still just as brilliant an experience as it was the first go-round. I'm about halfway through the third season. I remember the third season has a bit of a slow patch in it, but I can't remember when that crops up.

For those that don't know All Along the Watchtower is a song written by Bob Dylan. I personally love the BSG version though.
