Oh yeah, I forgot about SteamOS.
How far along is it?
Hey, this is pretty cool. Didn't even know that was a thing.
If you didn't know, this also works for non steam games. You can technically add Origin, launch it, and play games on Origin like Mass Effect 3 or something

It's pretty much screen capture for any active D3D or OGL device I think. As long as they're fullscreen exclusive mode anyway from what I've tried.

Yep, Also works with the Battle.net client and WoW/Diablo

it captures whatever is on the monitor. i've tricked it in to showing the desktop by launching titanfall, which doesn't focus straight away if it's launched through steam

Oh, sweet. That opens up a few possibilities for SteamOS then.
I was playing around with this earlier today, I got it to accidentally stream the desktop for a few seconds.
Now one would wonder if there's a way to 'fake' a local network, so that it streams to any device connected to the internet. Kinda like Hamachi actually
I was thinking about trying hamachi with this since that's what hamachi does
I personally don't see the appeal to this. Why not just plug your PC into your TV? Maybe most people can't because their computers are in a separate room, but even then why not just play the games on the computer?
Judging by everyone's reaction so far I think I'm the only one who isn't really impressed by this at all.
To clarify:
I don't see the point in using one PC to run a game (disabling it from doing anything else) only to play the game on a separate PC when you can simply hook the Gaming PC to the TV and leave the laptop out of the equation.
Not to mention, that there are VERY few PC games that support split screen. So if you're thinking of having some friends over for some classic 4 player splitscreen action, you're options are extremely limited and you're better off playing a console.

You can also alt-tab on the host computer and it shows whatever is on the screen, you can move the mouse around and do your regular stuff.

But what if I want to play hardware intensive games while I take a shit???

That's a hardware intensive game in and of itself

It would most likely work however the latency sending movements would be a killer
This is great! It means I can use my small laptop to stream from my larger laptop because my large laptop is too large to use comfortably in bed and my small laptop is too impotent to play real games. Really makes me wonder why I got the large one rather than upgrading my desktop.

I'd rather not lug my full tower case that's heavy as shit across the house and unhook my cables every time I want to play on my tv for a little bit.

Then don't lug your tower into your living room. Just play it where it is.

if you want to play on a TV, then what do you do? streaming is painless and works with no issues (from my testing).
with this I could have my desktop PC where I always have it, and if I'm in the mood to play it on my TV, I just bring my laptop and hook it up. could even bring my laptop to the kitchen to play games while making food (impractical, but hey, timewaster while waiting)

I imagine it wouldn't be all that bad as long as the actual internet connection on either device wasn't horrible. It's definitely not an optimal choice, but if there's a way for me to use my friends old thinkpad at his place and still play Wolfenstein or something, that'd kick ass
This is interesting and all. But what about streaming just the video and audio while leaving input capture to the computer actually running the game? That's what I'm interested in.
I tried this earlier today over my home wifi and it was pretty bad. It may have been something with my setup, I'm curious as to what other people's experiences are like.
Tried it earlier with my shitty old Thomson router and it works flawlessly.
Minor input lag that is hardly noticable unless playing something like Super Meat Boy.
Tried it yesterday and it works. My connection is pretty shitty so it could have been way smoother but the base idea works well, I guess it's just way more efficient with better internet than mine.
