Also lost access to the Steamworks Partner site too, so can't do anything dev related. Praise Gaben. Harlem Shake is over, one of the Valve guys is fixing it at the moment. Short version of what happened: <script> tags were allowed in community announcements. We were talking about weird Steam's HTML parsers in the #steamdb channel, and then Harlem Shake happened. Blame xPaw, Marlamin and Gran PC, of course.
Bravo Valve go after the whistleblower
Blame xPaw, Marlamin and Gran PC
Gosh darn
nice one gran
Seriously, GranPC pops up everywhere. What does he do? Is he a programmer?
gran pc seems to make an appearance everywhere

He also had a hand in the Stanley Parable game, which granted him access to Dev Privileges on Steam, and he went and abused that, too, by making some "official" announcement about Half-Life 3 that showed up on Steam, which ruined it for everybody.
You were always a kidder, Gran PC
Also, these guys deserved what had coming to them. (not the whole year ban, but the consequences itself) They had special dev rights, and they were granted to them as long as they followed the rules, which they couldn't do. They fucked up, and now are facing the consequences. The people that are calling Valve "awful" and "evil" are pathetic. Pretty sure Valve said they trust the devs enough to leave the tags in there when they were confronted about it. Looks like they were wrong when these idiots themselves proved them otherwise.

This is just standard practice for making devs eat their own shit when they refuse to fix blatant security problems Remember that one super meat boy incident?

You probably don't even realize it because you live in the US, but this euro=dollar shit is evil, especially for someone like me, who lives in a country where the minimum wage is about $2.50/hour I don't know how the fuck are they expecting us to afford €60/$80 games, at least you can buy most steam keys from greenmangaming
Valve doesn't set prices anymore I don't think

They're awful for not criticizing it, not awful for what other publishers decide their game should be priced at. Gamefly & Get Games also offer steam keys. Gamefly may be a bit sketchy since it's the EU your talking about and not the US or CA.

What incident?
Either way they should do something about it, maybe have the "euro price" field fill automatically with a suggested, properly adjusted price after you've typed in the dollar price or something Having to wait for a game to be ~-70% off just so it's not stupidly overpriced sucks
What incident?
Someone found out that the SMB level database for user-created levels had abysmal security and told the developer who proceeded to get cocky as fuck about it. That person made the info public and then this happened.
man you guys need to get over me -- i didnt even have anything to do this time!
finally grin pc does somethong good for the entire steam community come on grin you did us all a favor by helping the communtiy come together in times of trouebl thank you grin pc
Seriously, GranPC pops up everywhere. What does he do? Is he a programmer?
He works on a steam game (Can't remember the name of it for the life of me...) and likes to find exploits in things it seems. He is the one that posted that Hl3 announcement as well.
man you guys need to get over me -- i didnt even have anything to do this time!
Rest in peace my sweet prince.

You make a fake US account in 'fuck you street 420 Austin, TX' and you buy through it in USD at a discount I recently payed Payday2 about 7€(10$) instead of 10€.
We were talking about weird Steam's HTML parsers in the #steamdb channel, and then Harlem Shake happened. Blame xPaw, Marlamin and Gran PC, of course.
Sounds like a normal day in the #steamdb IRC channel. In my opinion Valve (or well, one employee) did overreact on this, there's no good reason for developers to be able to use <script> in announcements. It only needs one developer (of which there are a lot with all this Greenlight crap being added) to abuse it and Valve has a major security problem on their hands (you can do a lot of harm with JavaScript). Timmy did it in a pretty harmless way to prove this point, but Valve apparently disagrees and gave him a year of Steam Community vacation. Not to mention that this issue was reported over and over without Valve fixing it. This isn't the first time something like this happened. Valve is a great company, but their flat structure makes some things (like reporting issues like this) complicated.
Not to mention that this issue was reported over and over without Valve fixing it. This isn't the first time.
And this is where they fucked up. If there's a problem, the way to solve it isn't too abuse it yourself in any way, and then complain about any future consequences. They weren't asked/forced to do any of this. They brought this upon themselves. It sucks, but rules are rules. If they did this purposely, knowing what would happen to them, and to only prove a point, then it'd be a different story, and you'd be absolutely correct. But no, it's devs who thought it'd be funny to do some Harlem Shake shit on a platform made by a company that doesn't put up with childish behavior. The devs are also whining about the whole "ban" thing. Tough luck.

This is how you get vulnerabilities fixed when a developer refuses to fix them from just being reported. If they had any intention of using it in a bad way they would have kept quiet about it, the fact they did something very obvious (and safe) shows they want Valve to fix it.
